The following are effects I always do, as they are almost totally impromptu, easy to perform and get a great reaction:
1 - Color Monte - Greatest packet effect ever.
2 - Scotch & Soda - Greatest gimmick coin effect.
3 - Ken Allen's Jumping Gems - fantastic mileage out of 2 plexiglass sticks.
4 - Fred - Card effect that has the name "Fred" on back of the selected card, everyone is blown away with that one...
Rennie
P.S. - This is a great topic by the way, listing good as opposed to bad...

The effect is the important thing, how you achieve it is not.......

I've thought and re-thought about this and I would say over the many years (since 1964!) I've been buying stuff it has to be Greg Arce's 'Free Style Book Test'.

It is just brilliant and after the prep you can do so much and so many mind blowing reveals off multiple pages it is stunning. I don't know if Greg still has it available but if it is it's a real beauty.

Thumb tip - the first "trick" I bought and still the best for versatility, clarity of effect, and level of reaction.

My favorites are (for single trick purchase):

"Sinful" by Wayne Houchin
"Pinnacle" by Russ Niedzwiecki
"Hundy 500" by Gregory Wilson
And a recent addition is "Passing Thru" by Kevin Parker.

Definitely TT. Absolutely the most versatile and angle proof little miracle worker.
Have been using one for over 40 years and it has never failed to astound me how it just keeps blowing people away.
Sinful is close behind as my current "fair haired" effect.

Lassen Walking liberty flipper. beautiful. Like all gaffs, it's best to ring it in.

BCS. If I'm going to do a mentalism effect, I'll stick with this one. So clean.

Mystery box for the cleverness of the gimmick. Great reactions too.

Horwitz wallet for the no palm card in wallet while spectator holds it.

Tabman Wand. It's great to have this as a misdirection device, and to provide that 'reason' why things are happening. It's the wand.

For me it would have to be Richard Sanders' Fiber Optics. It looks like special effects , yet with ungimmicked rope. People are amazed by it, and I have a ball performing this one. Not to mention, packs small......plays big.

Did I say that out loud ?

I will add Morph by Ton Onosaka.

I could not believe my eyes after doing it in my own hands.
