I wonder if there are magicians wearing kilts? Maybe a complete Prince Charlie outfit? And maybe someone has profund knowledge concerning drop loads from a kilt?

I wear a black "Modker" utilikilt as part of a contemporary Scottish outfit. This kilt actually has pockets like a pair of dress slacks, and I use the front pockets for loads.

Yep...Utilikilts are the way to go. I wear a black utility kilt from Tripp. HUGE pockets. Definately not a formal kilt though.
Just watch for drunken ladies...They like to check if you are wearing it properly.

I'm presently having a formal 8 yard dress kilt made in the Highland Granite tartan (grey and black) by a custom kiltmaker in Vancouver. It will have slash pockets (like a pair of dress pants) on each side, but it will still look like a "regular" kilt.
On a related note, I just received a sporran that I had custom made to use with the kilt. It looks like a regular leather sporran from the front, but it has two compartments (front and rear) and can be accesed through the top without actually having to open it (great for ditches).

I don't have the legs for it, and I also know what the propper attire under the kilt is. I'll give you a hint in Scotland they are not allowed on the top of the double decker busses. Do the math yourself.

LOL...While it's true that Scots have a long-standing custom of "going regimental" (hearkening back to before the Highland wars), it's perfectly acceptable to wear black, close-fitting underwear under your kilt. Indeed, it's expected--if not required--in many formal situations. You can bet that when it comes to performing in a kilt, that's what I do.
BTW--I use one of the oldest--but still funniest--kilt jokes early on in my act. After my first trick (the barehanded vanish of a lit cigar, which is done silently), I say to the audience, "I know what you're all wondering. Is there anything worn under that kilt? The answer is no--everything is in perfect working order."

The most inspired answer I got when I asked a guy the famous "What does a Scotsman wear under his kilt?" was: "The pride of Scotland, M'am!"
Why not wearing a kilt as long as it works with your performance/spectators? Maybe you can use the traditional sporran to keep some of your props in and the long stockings which often go with a kilt could also be useful.

That reminds me of a Scottish drinking song, that ends with, "Lad I don't know where you've been, but I see you won first prize." LOL

I just purchased a kilt and sporran and socks etc on my recent visit to Edinburgh.
On my return to London, put it on for the first time only to discover that the security tag is still fixed on, and is clearly visible from behind.
At first, I thought.. "Oh no.. what do I do next?", immediately followed by.. "what a gag - a Scotsman, with a kilt, with the security tag on..." And it works perfectly!
I've been stopped 3 times in London so far.. "Excuse me.. do you know you've still got the security tag on your kilt?"
I've been wearing a fake security tag on the inside of my waistcoat for years, and it always gets a laugh..and now, THIS is even BETTER!
I'll be using the kilt on a few of my future gigs...
Cheers!

Sanish magician/entertainer Sir Benny wears a kilt in one of his shows and I think I have seen Paul R Wilson in one to.

I've seen Pat Page wearing a kilt. It was making him extremely elegant!

That's why I wear one.
As an aside, several months ago Lynetta Welch took on the task on installing a pair of topits in my kilt jacket. Since the jacket is significantly shorter, and worn much tighter, than a "traditional" suit jacket or sportscoat, it was a tricky task, to say the least. But she did a magnificant job, and I'm getting great use out of them.
I'm wearing the jacket in my avatar. It's a charcoal tweed, with horn buttons.

I'm glad to see that some people dare defending their identity. I find it very classy!
I hope your magic has as much class.
Respect.

Even if you're not accustom to seeing a kilt being worn, Mr. Page makes it look like what a well-dressed performer wears. It suits him well.

Here's a very old kilt joke.
How can you tell which clan a Scotsman belongs to?
Look under his kilt, if it's a quarter pounder, he's a MacDonald.

Ohhhhhhh...can't...help...myself.
Okay, while I have a number of snappy responses for when someone asks me what I wear under the kilt, here's my favorite:
"On a good day, lipstick."
(Or, depending on their orientation, "ChapStick."

Hello, I'm new to the forum and delighted that there are kilt wearing magicians out there.
I'll be using my clan kilt, which is a traditional style kilt. Also have an RKilt with the pockets like the Utilikilts. Sportkilt has come out with slash pockets as an option, they are inexpensive kilts, no wool. Donal Chayce, will have to think about modifying the sporran, may buy an inexpensive one to try that out with, hate to ruin a good one.
Hope to try out a few effects at some of this years Highland Games in NC. Wish me luck.
