Why does one have to be better then the other? You choose or buy both. I have several including ones I made myself. You will need back up for just in case anyway, they will not be available forever. If it is anything I have learned is that when you want it, it will no longer be available in magic.

I would like to know more about Steve Short's Hydro Glass. Has anyone seen it? Apparently he has it in both a 10 oz and a 16 oz size, and they are polycarbonate, so that sounds good.

Here's an old clip of another version of the hydrostatic glass performed by Billy McComb's wife June in 1951.

Can't remember the name of it, but I looked for years for it, I seen one at Abbott's once, but missed out on obtaining it. The trick is making the Pilsner Glass contents seem frozen and solid. Thanks for referencing that video link. I really like that Card Castle. |

Hi Bill!
I THINK it was either a Merv Taylor OR Town House (Bev Taylor & Don Lawton). --From the '50s. I can't remember what it was called I know that Town House sold a Hydrostatic Pilsener Glass. It was PLASTIC. ROY MAYER used it to open his school show in the early '50s. Me, too! (card castle)! I just checked Bruce Hetzler's "Bev Taylor's TOWN HOUSE MAGIC". The Pilsner HG is not mentioned. I would GUESS, therefore, it was Merv Taylor's.

Hi Dick,
Your are correct, it was Merv Taylor, I messed up. Although, just so that I am "right", Owen Magic owns Merv Taylor and Thayor Magic rights. So I was wrong and right at the same time. LOL I really wanted one of those for my extended Multiplying Bottle ACT. Dang! Wish we had some magic manufacturers, that actually manufactured magic to be used in magic shows, like the old days. |

I can't remember ever seeing one at an auction or a magic "flea Market". I remember that Roy really "sold" the effect~
That's a GOOD TRICK -- (being right and wrong simultaneously!!!) I use a mut. parasol, 3 rings, an egg bag, and a hydtostatic bottle (TipCee Bottle). Most everything else is a "generic" prop. Rope, silks, cards, coins etc. I do agree regarding prop builders like the old days. For example, Abbott's made almost everything that they sold, and they did make some nice stuff. I don't go to many auctions or sales anymore, but, if I hear of the Pilsener glass, I'll either grab it, or let you know.

Just got the 20oz glass in today. The glass looks so innocent. It really does look like an everyday glass you would use. Looking forward to using this in my show. My 2 cents

I ordered my Hydrostatic Glass from Pop and in less than two weeks, it arrived in my home in Malaysia.
Excitedly, I opened it, read the instructions once, then I practiced it once. It was in the late afternoon. I then had to rush to a show venue. And that night, before I went on stage, I practiced the Hydrostatic Glass again once more. Then I went on stage, did my routine and when it came to the HG routine, I was full on confidence that it would be a killer. I performed it and people ROARED! It worked like magic! Yes, I know we magicians need sufficient practice before doing a new effect. But with this one, I know it would work and it would be a killer. This magic is just one of those rare magic that you could literally perform right out of the box. The HG looks EXCELLENT! It doesn't look like a prop at all. In fact it looked like a very normal AND expensive looking glass. The feel of the glass is SOLID. Solid solid solid! I could find no fault with this magic. It is surely a winner. I perform the HG after doing the Flow (Paul Harris and Dan Hauss). I did the Flow and then offered to "explain" how this magic worked. Thus I proceeded to perform the HG routine - "this is science, this is magic." patter. It went over the roof. People were just listening intently and nodding their head at "this is science" as though they really did understood. The moment I did "this is magic", BOOM! Somebody call the firetruck! After this, I am placing another order for Pop's HG. And Pop has a very good customer service and answers to your questions well. Get yours NOW! You won't regret. |

I ordered my second glass already. It takes just a little over a week for it to arrive in Malaysia.
