Actually guys this trick is OLD. Different patter and look but same concept. The original way is done with two color decks (of what the layperson thinks) And yes the old version is way more impressive.

When I first watched the demo, I was instantly reminded of Patrick G Redford's "Auspicious Coincidence" - from his book Mendacity. Anyone else...?

Mark, me too, but Redford's handling and method is more sophisticated. Jan

Well since you named it now - a bell starts to ring, but Redfords presentation is just great! He really plays with the mind of the spectators.
Maybe a combination of Redfords presentation and Thirteen would be a good combo? |

Bought it, learned it, love it. This is a great effect that will have your spectators shaking their heads. One of Mark Mason's best releases and a candidate for best of 08'.
I had some idea of what this might involve, but I wouldn't have figured it out prior to learning it. I looked at the cards and examined them close before watching the instructional DVD and I didn't see the secret, though it was right in front of my eyes. I believe some of you who think you know what this is, really don't or, like me, are unable to figure out the whole set up. Either way this is going to fool a lot of people. Even if you know what it is, the supplied materials and gimmicks are worth the $30 price for this. You could make them on your own, but you would spend some cash and time anyway. I think there is fantastic value here. Kudos to Mark Mason and Nicholas Paul. |

The cards could be cut as often as one wished. As long as the cuts were complete cuts.

Greg, Thank you. I have learn some new handlings from you today. The method you suggest using two decks is pretty handy, as you said the normal predicton deck you placed on the table can allow you to continue with other card tricks with a normal deck. Just have to slide the prediction card (which will be an extra card/duplicate) into the card box and leave it there while taking out the normal deck of cards.
And I like the sleeving idea as well, Cheers. |

I just got this and it is an outstanding effect. I do not do a lot of cards but this is a worker and one I will be doing. YOu do not need a jacket you can actually do the switch behind your case and pretend to bring out the second deck. One of the best purchases I have made in a long time and as someone stated above maybe the trick of 2008.

Getting another THIRTEEN STICKER from the suppliers (if you can) and putting it on another pack of cards (exactly the same) is ideal. You put the two packs into a pouch with a top zipper. You bring out the pack with the THIRTEEN on showing the spectator the sticker, you take the cards out, showing they are all different and ask to have them cut a few times. You then say it would be impossible to know what the thirteen card would be. Cards go back into box and into pouch.
You bring out the cards with PREDICTION on showing they are all different. Spectator cuts several times, chooses number say 22, you leave this card FACE DOWN. Cards go into case, and as you put them into pouch you ask spec to turn the face down card over. This mis-direct gives enough time to do the switch in the pouch. You then bring out the original THIRTEEN and the thirtenth card matches. P.S. Having a pouch with a little extra room to move the cards does help. You can do the trick in your Bathing costume if you wished. NO JACKETS, NO POCKETS. Norman. (England) |

My personal opinions offered below, don’t shoot.
I watched the video, thought I would like it, so I bought it. Weak for me part I: Before buying Thirte3n it was obvious that it was one deck. The way it was handled and the words used, or tone used, in the video made it obvious. I thought I would not mind this, but after a few of weeks of working with this I don’t care for it. Weak part II: The video shows the cards spread out on the table, maybe I’m too picky but I don’t think in “real life” close-up I would do this. I should more correctly say it doesn’t work for me. Part of the reason it looks ok in the video is that camera has the cards out of focus. What the camera “sees” in the video and what people see with cards laying in front of them is quite different. Weak part III: This just goes to show me to be more careful I did not catch this until I had Thirte3n in my hands. Yes it is obvious now, but I missed it. The “prediction” cards are pulled out of the deck and never shuffled, cut or anything. Of course we know false shuffles or the correct type of cuts would work OK. But it looks weak to me if you do it as shown in the video. Weak part IV: As mentioned above the “thirteen” deck is not cut or shuffled and it looks weak. Yes this can be changed to make it stronger as mentioned by: Greg Rostami KingOfDiamonds Donny Orbit Norman Larry Davidson but at $30 dollars someone with a lot more experience than me, the inventor, could have done this before it was released. There have been many helpful comments offered here at the Café , but I have noticed that when a product is really good the comments are about how great the product is, not what to do to fix it. Just my 13 cents, well really more like $30 dollars
