Looking for effects that question perception for a mentalist show.
For instance variations of the Margaret Thatcher Illusion, or starring into a hypno disk. Looking for ideas that can be seen in a medium to large auditorium. Any ideas or places to look? Thanks Dick Brooks & Dorothy Dietrich

How about a color thing. For example: our perception of the sky is that it's blue but it's not blue. Use any other thing on color maybe a rainbow then do the routine? What routine? There must be many color routines maybe a color cube.

The sky is blue is a great idea, but I also want something or things that are visual to the audience in the moment. Do not want anything that looks or feels like a trick, though it could be a mystery. Entity; Missed out on that book. Stupid huh! Should have bought a dozen. Dick Broooks

What in earth is the "Margaret Thatcher Illusion"... even though I was born in 86, her name still strikes fear in to me... no she has an ILLUSION!
A variation of Luke's "Manipulation of Perception" may be what you are after, I have a variation the involves colour... sort of. I can lay no claim to it however as it was openly shared on the Café many years ago...

Any of the hundreds of "anomalous motion" optical illusions should fit the bill. Here are some good ones, to get you started. The color tile illusion is a good one too.
Every problem contains the seeds of its own solution. Unfortunately every problem also contains the seeds of an infinite number of non-solutions, so that first part really isn't super helpful.

Alain Nu Has one with a horse I think. there is also the Monroe - Einstein one and howe about the incredible shrinking head spinning disk
You might say reality is the result of complex negotiations between the observer and the observed. But that is simply a point of view.

Hello Dick,
too bad you missed the Berglas book. Its great. BUT theres hope: Ross Johnson released a DVD called "Simply Psychic". In it is the "Stroop Test" which was also in the Berglas book. In the same line is his "Odd man out". And you have the benefit of a master showing you how to present this test so it works best. I hope that many more ideas come up, great thread. |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bk7CxHCasts This illusion wich can be remade in different patterns for your need seems a bit freacky to certain person. I personally present it as a pseudo-hypnotic phenomena since the pattern look like an hypnotic inducer.
