Hello all..calls from the motels that they are getting several calls for reservations! That is terrific news..of course we want you spending your time and $$ in Colon but there are several places to visit within 30 minutes of Colon...we have a new casino opening about 30 minutes from here and of course if you like to shop for the Amish items you can visit Shipshewanna - again about a 30 minute drive. The antique capital of Michigan is about 45 minutes from here - we hope to have a list of places put together just in case your wife and kids want to do something different throughout the week.....

Hey, I eat at Das Essenhaus or The Blue Gate in Shipshewana all the time, first class. But the Riverlake Inn or whatever it's called just outside of Colon has terrific food too. I don't know how many magicians know about that place- but it is one of the few buffets I have ever been at where lobster is included. Nice watching all the birds there too- they have about a zillion feeders. Pretty pricey, but great food. Colon has a new restaurant just west of FAB Magic, that is sure to be packed out. That will be a nice addition to Magic Week. Be sure to bring your best 10 minute or less routine- then sign up to be on the Late Late Show at FAB either Wednesday or Thursday nights! I talked to PJ Weber again last night about it, he will be there. Fired up!

Yes, they have a HUMMINGBIRD FESTIVAL at Riverlake Inn in July and they hire me every year to 'stroll' the grounds which by the way are beautiful! Birds and wildlife everywhere. A real gem of a place........
And of course we have Curly's, Dawn & Phil's ( the old MagiCafe), Clancy's closed last fall, The M & M Grille, Chevelles and of course Five Star Pizza....plus all of the church dinners..heck there will be plenty to eat. We are setting up a small tent cover in back of the shop on the grounds so folks can sit out there and enjoy magic and the outdoors...if it gets too hot our 7000 foot facility is fully airconditioned! So we are all ready for you...will be fun....been coming to Colon since 1965 when Duke was working ...what memories... |

Living in the land of the Amish I was very surprised to see them in Michigan. It made me wonder just how they made from Pennsylvania to Michigan riding their wagons and bikes.

You have not lived until you see the buggy pulling the motorboat behind it. Or following them into an Aldi store (supermarket) and seeing their load of 14 bags of sugar, 12 bags brown sugar, 8 sour creams, etc. . Usually, it is two full cart loads. They have a Yankee (non Amish) driver) that takes them shopping and they stock up. They just started pulling a trailer behind the vans because they buy so much stuff. It just cracks me up.
BTW, I also live in the heart of Ohio Amish country. There was piece in the Sunday paper. Many of them are moving to Colorado and Wyoming because of the price and availability of land here. Richard

Abbott's/FAB this year is going to be a blast- could be one of the best "Magic Weeks" ever. My guess is Duane Laflin will be lecturing at the local Colon church as well with his latest Gospel magic stuff. Just another great feature.

Duane will be doing his Magic Ministers Lecture, you can read more about it at http://www.magicgettogether.com about a quarter down the page. Also you can check out pics from Duanes lecture last years lecture at http://www.magicgettogether.com/gallerie......ndex.htm about halfway down the page.
Whether you perform Gospel magic or not this is an incredible lecture. I watched Duane last year at this saying to myself "I got to get me one of those" then realizing that I already had one of those. Duanes routines are very clever and sometimes "outside the box" and he's sure to stir up some creative juices this year. |

Roger, I think you will be right about this year, it will be one of the best ever for sure.
I say this because I have been getting real good feedback on whats on the schedule and the schedule is not yet even complete - I am sure you have seen it, I have it on several websites. http://www.colonmi.com/schedule.html http://www.abbottmagic.com/schedule/index.htm http://www.topsmag.com/schedule/index.htm Many new things will be added to the schedule in the upcoming weeks. Creative sessions/Lectures from Street of Cards and a card scaling contest to list a few. The new park will be operational (I just took a pic of it today at http://www.colonmi.com/communitypark.html if you want to see their progress) and the park will have even more events as well. Abbotts will be going into its promotional mode after July 4th and one thing that's been kept a bit underwraps is that this is Abbotts 75th Diamond Anniversary (although only the 72nd Get Together) and Abbotts is really going to want to make this Get Together stand out. Look for a Get Together post here after the 4th with much more detail. Ticket sales are going good so we should have very good attendance as well. I expect this to be a week to remember in magic. I wonder if Percy and Recil could have ever foreseen this event 75 years ago. |

We are anticipating a big turnout and excited about some of the media that has contacted us -a call from CBS television nightly news inquring about the events and the Travel channel as well...we also are pursuig a related story for the media: Braidwood, Australia - where Percy was born - is nearly a replica of Colon. Linda & Syd Abbott tell me it is almost a carbon copy layout....and think because their father loved it so much that when he came to Colon it reminded him of Braidwood. This is the first time since their dad died that all of the remaining Abbott's will be here including a cousin from Australia...heck you might even see Syd behind our counter during the week - you just never know who will be coming...surprises are in store !!!! Stay tuned or better yet come see us!

By the way, congrats on your new home Rick, it does look like a peaceful environment. Mary and I are looking in the area as well, but I told Walter (the local Real Estate guy) I want to be within walking distance of the local taverns.
