What is the one effect, or sleight that you see referenced that you can never find a good explanation/description of?

Best,

Nathan

The Hofzinger spread cull seems to be a tough one to find. I have an idea about it but it's a little sketchy.

I second that. I find that methods for controlling one card to a specific location are in short supply. I'm in the Ammar camp, in that I think using the pass to control one card is overkill and a cut or riffle shuffle is a little to obvious. A spread cull would do nicely but I haven't seen it explained well anywhere... any suggections?

In high school I read the library section on magic and was stumped by the phrase "turn the topic of conversation to..."

hints, suggestions and strategies more than welcome. -Jonathan

The Kelly Bottom Reverse. I see lots of references to it but no explanations.

I would agree with the others about a spread cull. A very useful tool, but a hard one to learn from books. It really helps to see the cull in action so that you get an idea of rhythm, timing, etc.

Definitely the Spread Cull, no question. I've only seen a couple of descriptions and they are both sketchy at best.

I would have loved to have Marlo have a Chapter in his Revolutionary Card Technique series.

Hi Phil,

Thanks for dropping in!

The Kelly Bottom Placement eh (Ovette Master Move)? Never thought about that.

The thing I never liked about it is something that Max Maven pointed out. The fact that you can always tell when someone is doing that move, even if you are in the back of the theatre. You always see that wierd grip with the right hand.

Max's solution was to change the moment. But I'm still a little leary of the move. I do love its directness though.

Hmmm... any thoughts?

Hi Nathan,

Just recently I was reading Guy Hollingworth's Collectors routine that was published in the Penumbra (can't remember which issue) where the upper packet is held in a modified grip. The thumb at the inner end and the ring and middle at the outer end. The pinky though is on the face of the packet. The pinky pulls to the right where the card breaks away from the packet and is delivered to the bottom. Excuse the wordy description. Anyway, it gets away from that awful "claw" look.
Best, Ed

Hey Nate, this is Brandon from Saginaw.
I have to agree with everyone about the spread cull. I always flinch when I put my left thumb on the card above the selected card and then pull that selection out of the spread. It looks like I make the card vanish then it reappears on the bottom of the deck.

I think I just need more practice, Oh well. I have to stop typing now because I can't find the remote and the Simpsons are almost on. Hope your having fun with this whole Special Guest thing. see ya next time I'm in Flint.

Phil Pearce,
In line with the Kelly Bottom Placement eh (Ovette Master Move), we have a thread called "DeSouza's Deceptions" going on in the forums, and on his tape and companion book there is a well detailed, fully explained, process for this move. I don't think there is any other source so clear. There are a ton of other very useful sleights explained also.

Jose de la Torre's ten coin roll. A flashy coin stunt that offers no explanations at all....that I've found.
