The Tipper Monkey was recently recommended to me for my walk around and restaurant act. Can anyone give me any feedback before I invest the $250. How many phrases does it have and do you have control over exactly which phrase is said at all times? I want to make sure I will get the response I need at the right time if I'm going to make this work. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Christopher

Tipper does not "speak." Instead he squeeks and claps on cue. The system alternates automatically between clapping, and squeeking.
I was given one as a gift and have had difficulty getting any sort of range (meaning distance) out of the equipment. I asked Bruce Kalver about it at one of his lecture appearances and he started to give me some advice. When he found out it was a gift, he literally threw his hands up in the air and refused to offer any help.
I hope, unlike he, I was able to help.

I like Tipper, I've had it for about 3 years, and everybody gets a kick out of this psychotic little monkey.
I would wait until it goes on sale though and save a few bucks. d\Don't get me wrong, its amazing (especially if you use the foot remote), it's just $250 is quite a chunk of change.

Personally, I prefer Randy Kappe's Mr. Mambo. It's a Panda that plays the drums on cue. He also used to make a Mr. Monkey that is very similar to Tipper.
Consultant, performer, creator, and all around nice guy!

Can you give any contact information so that I can look at the Mr. Mambo.
I've used tipper for several months now and definitely can't go anywhere without him. However, it would be nice to have other options and mix it up a bit.

What type of use are you getting out of him? I am just curious because mine has been sitting on the shelf for a while and I am just itching to try something new with him.
I have had problems in the past with the frequency, it is on the same one as my sound system and he starts going wild when I plug it in.
I used him as an opener in my kid shows for quite a while, until I got the newer sound system, and the problems started, as described above.

I use him for so much, it really is actually sad.
At first, just in closeup at my tables. But now he's in my adult and stage show. I use him as an applause cue. When I get a muted reaction, I tell them that it's ok they didn't applaud, I bring my own fan club. And he's introduced.
Later when someone asks how something is done, or if I need a bit of business when explaining a trick, I have tipper explain. Then I follow up with "any further questions must be submitted in written form"
I've used him as a lie detector in kids shows, I've worked out how to get him to nod yes. So I use him as if I'm not sure if I'm doing something right...I keep looking at him and he nods yes, or screached if no.
Every show I come up with something new. And don't even get me started about the vanishing bandana and tipper, the jokes and confusion are great.

That's great stuff.
I have done many things similar. I really like the lie detector idea. I used to do similar stuff just asking him questions, but I never got any audience participation out of him.
I'd like to hear about the vanishing bandana with him involved, that sounds neat.
Are you using the foot remote? I had problems with that, but maybe they have adapted it a little better since I got mine.

I actually have people talking directly to the monkey now. It's great when it happens, and I always point it out and make a joke out of it.
As for the bandana. I've been dong this routine for 15 years. The monkey is a perfect explanation for the bandana being replaced by the bannana. I act like I don't know who replaced it, the monkey smiles....I turn to look...he stops...rinse and repeat. Afterward, I go over and talk to the monkey and find the yellow bandana in his basket and he goes wild.
Yes, I use the foot remote. I've had to repair it three times already, but it's the best solution. I wish I could find a source for the pressure switches so I could make some backups.
I now use different outfits for the monkey depending upon holidays and the venue. Have you tried this?

Christopher, I have a source for the best pressure switches on the market...the kind that are used by "intelligence" agencies, professional cheats, etc. PM me if you're interested.

I just purchased one without instructions. Can someone send me a copy of the instructions? PM me. Thanks.
