I fly indoor, rubber powered, free flight models. What has this to do with anything? It turns out that since rubber is an organic material that certain rubber is better to fly airplanes with than others. Different batches have different characteristics, so when a good batch is found, this rubber is purchased and carefully used for competitions and world record attempts.
I have a few pounds of the really good stuff, it is over a decade old, originally sold for $18 a pound and now sells for about $1 a gram. So keeping and storing it is really important to preserve it's characteristics and value. The rule is cool, dry, and dark. I store the rubber in hard plastic containers (most soft plastic gives off gases that lead to decomposition of rubber) that are sealed tightly (glass and metal work too) and placed into either a freezer or refrigerator. UV light is the worst.

There are several tricks called "Stargazer" I am refering to the rubber band trick called stargazer.
