I just bought "The Little Egypt Book of Ghosts" and there's a routine that uses this prop. Can somebody tell me about this. It's not available any more. Thanks for any help.

I'm looking for one, too! I have a very practical use for it. I've been looking for one almost since they went on the market and then out of production.
There was one available some time ago, but the seller wanted collector piece prices for it instead of "going to put it in my show and beat the tar out of it" prices. (Translation: Originally-priced $60 prop increased in asking price exponentially due to scarcity and I wasn't willing to pay that much of an exponential.) It is an updated version of "Arrow Through Hand" using a hand puppet and a knitting needle (I believe) instead of the arrow and burlap bag thingy. Chris |

My 'Little Egypt Book of Ghosts' should arrive today or tomorrow, so I'm not sure what you guys are talking about, but Google magician David Merry. I purchased his 'Acupuncture' effect which is a knitting needle thru the hand effect.
I don't know if this helps but I really like the trick & have added some subtleties, like letting a spectator hold on to my fingertips as the needle goes through my hand. Creeps them out. Marqus |

It was a Magic Inc. prop. I ask them about it a couple of years back, but the new people there never bothered to answer. Years back, if you wanted something like that, Fran would run on off for you on her sewing machine.

A friend of mine had one and I believe he gave it away as a gift. The are now VERY expensive if you can even find one. In my opinion this is spooky magic and not bizarre magic ... not that there is anything wrong with that at all. I just couldn't find a use for it, or I woulda begged the owner to give it to me ;-) Dave |

This was a trick called Voodoo Puncture Puppet by Michael Schwabe who worked at Magic Inc. and was also a puppeter, I believe he has since passed away. This was only available through Magic Inc. and is no longer available. He came up with an effect of a Voodoo Puppet that you would put your hand in, let the spectator feel your hand inside and then proceed to push a large hat pin through the center of the puppet and your hand. They could then continue pulling the need and attached thread out while feeling your hand inside! It was a cool idea, they usually now sell in the $400-$500 if you can find one, Michael hand made each one, and they are all a little different looking. The best person using one with simply the BEST routine is Brian Brushwood with his Mr. Happy Pants routine. You can see it here!

Thanks for all the info and the link.
From what I knew the item was released through Magic Inc. but Michael had retained the rights to it, so it wasn't an "in production item" for Magic Inc. Of course, this adds to its value and scarcity as a collector piece. Chris |

I just stumbled across this link for anyone interested in buying a Voodoo Puppet Puncture as described in the "Little Egypt Book of Ghosts'. Apparently you can contact Michael Schwabe the creator and arrange a special order.

I'll ask a cupola of people who are heading for the magic collectors convention about this. Until then, there is this little blurb...

It appears that Michael is still making them and selling them for about $250. Seems better to support the originator and buy from him rather that on the secondary market for $150 over retail ($400+).
He posted less than a year ago on Murphy's and included his contact information for purchasing these. http://murphysmagiccommunity.com/profile/MichaelSchwabe Tony |

I was with Brian Brushwood on Thursday for a Scam School episode and he said that Michael has retired the Mr Happypants puppet for Brian. You won't be able to get the exact Mr HappyPants look!
