Hey guys
ive just bought a new fcuk black suit jacket online, hopefully will be a nice fit.
I'm going to wear it with black trousers, open jacket, shirt no tie with top button undone.
the jacket has an electric blue lining, with this in mind what colour shirt would be best to wear, as if I don't do the suit jacket up the blue will be visible.
any ideas or fashion advisers in the room?

You probably can't go wrong with white. It'll look good with the blue.

Big problem: Wearing a jacket and trousers the same color that are not from a suit NEVER works. The tones and material will always be a little different and it gives the effect of very cheap suit. You need to wear the jacket with a contrasting color or contrasting material like denim. I would recommend charcoal grey trousers as the best to complement black.
AS for the shirt color, a pale blue is probably fine, but blue and black is a difficult color combination to pull off, especially if the rest of the outfit is black. White is a much safer choice.

Luckily I've got about 10 pairs of black trousers so I will judge all against the suit, if they all do look out of place then I will go different, but I do have a pair of black fcuk trousers so they may match

Yellow is also a good choice for shirt color. With the black and blue it will add a color splash and bring out the blue in the jacket lineing.

Very true, I tend to stay away from black/yellow together, as it makes me look like a really tall bumble bee, but with the blue next to it, it could work well.
Sounds like a trial and error job to me, hope you find the perfect shirt my friend!

I will take it with me when I go to get a nice new shirt I think and see what looks best, I do love the traditional black white combo but don't want to look funeral material

Sounds like a plan! Have you gotten the jacket yet? I'd love to see a photo maybe, once you find the right shirt. =]
It's nice to see what people are wearing, partly to get ideas, and partly so you don't look like everyone else!

With due respect I disagree: Cary Grant with a Navy Blue Blazer and creamy white pants was the least to say exremely elegant. The objection that not everyone is Cary Grant doesn't hold for your statement concerns the combination of colors in clothing.
You will notice that Dark blue jackets are also worn by millionaires with light blue pants
A light yellow cotton jacket matches very nicely a pure white pants and so does a bright red linen jacket
A black and white surseeker jacket matches nicely with dark blue pants
Admittedly this is for the summer but young rich guys wear a tuxedo jacket with tux shirt without bow knot and ... jeans. The ultimate in cool chic.
Not unlike in magic "rules are done for the obedience of the fools and the guidance of the wise"
Magic is not a performing art where people don't know how situations are reached, it's the art of showing parallel dimensions that can't be reached

Lawrence O, I think you mis-read Natanel's post. Ne said to not wear pants and coat of the same color if they aren't part of the same suit. He said to wear contrasting pants with the coat. So I think you're in agreement.
