Hi everybody,
here is a video that promotes my internet-magic-school:

Any ideas how to make improvements next time we shoot such a video?

Here's a video I recently made to show at my booth at a showcase.
It's a bunch of short clips with music background, as it was meant to catch people's attention as they were walking by my booth.
No one really stood there and watched all four minutes. They would just glance at it as I was telling them about my show.
With that in mind....

Tim. That's a great promo, the audience reactions are priceless and you look like you belong on a stage, I'd have stuck around for 4 minutes.
Hansel, the dollar trick is fantastic. I've no idea how that works it looks like real magic. However, I think you should have a wee think and a re-edit. Look at Tim's video. Now I know you might not be able to get them same production values etc but you can change the focus. The culmination of magic tricks out of context is really only interesting to us folks on the Café. Tim's video focuses on the audience and volunteers, then on him, then on the magic. That's the way to do it.
Also, bored sound guy is a bit distracting.

You always make me laugh!
Actually in the "You oughta be in pictures" here in the Café I explain the origin of the video.
At a public gig at a Shopping Mall a friend of mine brings his new video camera and taped the show. He put together a "Trailer" of my show as a gift for me! I shared it with my friends at the Café, but this is NOT my promo video!! Really this thread is intended to Promotional videos...So maybe I'm out of context but I think is a nice idea to share this with the Café people!
REAL promo Video Coming Soon!
Thanks,

Ah, fair enough. I like the vid just thought it was unsuitable for a promo. Looking forward to seeing the real thing.

Here is mine. I paid a new video production company I found on Craigs list $20 to make it (except for the reviewsparts ). I figured, for $20 if it was lousy, no big deal. They did do a lousy job, but I was able to get 4 decent minutes, and I edited myself. I'll make a new one soon, and I'll get a good video guy this time, and have it edited better. But it does the trick for now.

Hi Friends, Has been a while since I have posted here so I thought I would get myself involved again. My video which I have been using for approx. 6 months or so is on the home page of my site http://www.kids-magic-shows.com.au. I have had occasions when I receive a call and I can still hear the video playing in the background, they are a killer marketing tactic!

Here's my "brand new" promotional video. My other video is a short montage of show clips, but for this one I wanted to show a complete magic trick routine on stage. This runs 12 minutes, so I could show the whole trick. I hope you enjoy it!

Tim,
That is a really great routine. I feel that if you are doing a promo you should edit it so that it uses a lot of the funny parts but is shorter in nature. Most viewers will not stay for the whole 12+ minutes. You could get other routines in the promo to show different parts of your show.
Just my 2+ cents,
R

I imagine you were commenting on my new video, because it was 12 minutes. I also have a 5 minute montage video (mentioned that in the same post where I gave the link). The link to my other video is in the first post on this thread. I put both videos onto my website. If they like what they see in the montage, and want to watch a longer video with a full routine (not edited clips), then they will. So again, I offer them both. I am not offering a 12 minute, unedited show clip only.
If a person has multiple videos on their site, some customers will watch only one, and some will watch several videos.

Random thoughts ...
picture & sound quality is good - obviously you were wearing a microphone for the camera
since you didn't have a large audience I would suggest doing away with the group shot and using more closeups
not sure why you didn't show the kid floating in air. the shot you used just didn't work for me.
didn't like that the written message was separated as much as it is. you're making them wait for the message.
instead of the written message could you do a studio shot of you talking into the camera?

Wow! Lots of Great Promo Videos on here. Mine is not as professional as most. Teaching myself through trial and error to make my videos. My wife does a pretty good job trying to shoot the video and I edit them into something we can use. Either way, I hope you enjoy this one or at least get a good laugh!

My fellow magic friends and I have found that posting videos on your site does increase the probability of booking shows. In fact, some clients have even told us that we were booked because we were the only one that had a video.
Have Fun!

Hey everyone I've looked at some of the videos here and there is some great stuff out there. Well, I threw this one together yesterday when a client asked for more video samples of my show. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rR31N0pkt4A I use Pinnacle editing software and it's great.
