I couldn't help it!
I had to experience this for myself. I rarely ever get to see anything like this in person which means I rarely get to experience this kind of mystery for myself. It's hard for me to understand how to create mystery in my own shows without really feeling it myself. So, I went to see Bal do this AND I LOVED IT! I won't go into any details because Bal pretty much said it all and I want to continue to respect Doug's wishes. No worries these secrets are safe with me, Doug =). But, the experience of seeing it and seeing everyone else see it (and feel it) taught me a lot. And, the thinking behind it helped to validate my own thoughts on how mystery can be presented. I really appreciate Dougs approach (again I won't go into any details.) I am SUPER JEALOUS of Bal, and his purchase. I am also super jealous of the original Hautique that Bal made and shared with me yesterday. It's totally his own thing and he's still working on it. I won't share the details but it was beautiful and this TOO was the first time I ever truly experienced a Hauntique in person (not just bizarre items but like REALLY a Hauntique styled item) This was beautiful! And, experiencing that in person taught me a lot too! Thank you Bal and Doug for a wonderful day =)and bringing me a bit of magic. C

Clifford, Balaram,
I sometimes find myself in the right place at the right time, and I'd love to give you each a buck or two for the privilege of seeing the exhibits with my own eyes-- I'm sure I'm not the only one, either. Any chance of posting your venues and dates? cheers, Lin |

One "type" I WAS able to connect with, and subtly get them more interested, was--gothic teenagers-- who, as expected, loved it. AFTER viewing, a lot of folks wanted to talk. Good engagements then. For the record--Christian C.(in a Special Guest Appearance) drew in the most extra customers (5) just by standing and looking, took about 40 seconds. Second place--a very happy Mexican man, who kept calling friend after friend in to see. Ah, family ties to the Giant? Ask him if he ever comes to NorCal !? |

Only negative remark was the creepy man who thought it was "evil voodooism" and even he spoke pleasantly, he was only "concerned" for me. At any rate, your manual gives the perfect, hassel-free win-win answer for any such problem, but after this first trial it is obvious my worries in this area were groundless. Just rookie jitters. The suspension of belief was shocking. The whole thing is a lesson in Presentation. (Don't spoil the magic by putting your ego in the way!) Honestly, Doug, it was yesterday and I can't stop thinking about it and de-briefing myself, pulling out all these lessons. And many more to come. Just what I needed, so thank-you again, friend. |

Actually your outfit Clifford, is PERFECT. This was new banner confuguration and text/copy I came up with specifically for the Zibit you have. The whole thing is Awesome and should knock 'em dead no matter what 'circle' they travel in. Especially the 'educated'.
For others reading this..these were the banners I designed and had printed for my own use and they are just killer. Cliffords outfit is the perfect setup and the Zibit looks good enough for the Museum Of Natural History in NY. When you see Cliffords set up...you are seeing the How-To as it was meant to be seen. Clean...Direct and unmatched so far. Clifford set it up Perfectly...the photos are KILLER!!!!!! (Too bad they are private to the INITIATED...you'll just have to catch the show LIVE! Here's a tip for all doing this show... SATURDAY at Disneyland in the midst of this so called Economic Meltdown...Disney was not only packed to the doors (on a day when Annual Passholders were cut out, a blackout day) but at the end of the day the shelves in most of the stores were nearly BARE!!!! We have never seen this before! People were buying and spending like crazy people. The popular candy type store with very hig priced hand made candies was looking like a Soviet grocery store by 11:30 pm. Shelves with maybe 4 or 5 items still on it. Meltdown my ass. Not in the entertainment filed! Toys and Disney stuff was in bags going out the gate like I never saw. Get out there and do the show. Forget that phoney Paulson and the government scams going on...the REAL world is in full swing.

I'm only saying this for the sake of argument and nothing else but, Disney could have purposefully order few items just to play it safe. That combined with the influx of people could make it look like the stuff flew off the shelves. And, Xmas just past which means they could be cleaned out plus maybe they ordered less right now plus the new surge in attendence.
They maybe back up to full shelves by tomorrow's shipment. Time magazine had a thing today about Vegas attendence dropping and hurting them. Haven't read it fully yet. Sorry for going off topic. C

Well, a couple of years ago I began talking to Doug about framing a show I was thinking of doing and he convinced me, being the ultimate salesman he is, to try his first. So last year,( I was a slow sale), I bit the bullet and ordered, June was my first time out and after 75 dates in four months and over 3500 miles I can tell you, it is fun and I agree with most that has been said.
It is all about numbers, more people, more dollars. Whether you should or should not talk, I am a talker, I talk to anyone and everyone about anything and everything. I talk to the ones that have no intention of ever coming in and I talk to everyone who does come in. Hurt or helps, don't know, it is just me, it is who I am. There will be one or two kids that will be your best investment. Tell them they get back in free everytime they bring you someone. They will bring you several. At one show one kid alone brought me over 30. I am also a Psychic Entertainer, and an old adage in that field goes along the lines "If you believe it is real, they will believe it is real" and that holds very true in this one too. I feel when they enter my tent, they leave reality at the door and come into my world, where all things are possible. I use a combined Doug's method with my own backstory and subtleties, which does get me a lot of repeat visitors and so far a 100% satisfaction rate. Although I never, ever lie, I do run right against the line If at all possible advertise. Radio, TV or flyers. My best shows were when I was promoted on the radio, with the best one being when televisons ABC News touted my tent as "the one thing you must see" and "I don't what it is But, it is worth a dollar" and this brings us back to talking. I would have never got the free advertising if I hadn't talked to these people. If radio or TV reporters are there get their attention, it pays. If they are not there, promote yourself. Doug says I won't make any money with it but, I am finally putting the finishing touches on the show that started me down this path, and hope to have it out in '09 but, the zibit will continue on its own too.

Doug (me) says you wont make any money with what?? I can't imagine my ever saying that about anything...it always depends on the situation and the person doing it......I have no idea what it is Doug...PM me. If it's a dead baby show...they make money in the right venue...BUT what I do say about a show like that is they will NOT get everybody as a potential. You'll get some but you cant get all because of the turn off factor for women (and others). Anything can make money...the point of the Zibit Show as I teach it is to make money with MINIMUM exertion, just ONE exhhibit and minimum Expense...and NO HEAT ie: ZERO money back requests...and above all Family Friendly...like you said 100% satisfaction rate...no other show in history has that record that I'm aware of!!! I had the same results. No negatives.
I always teach that the kids will bring you the biz...that certain kid that 'gets it' will be just like us when he grows up...meanwhile he's a 'helper' that brings you customers. Treat him right! As to your promotion advise...it works for you and many others...to each his own on that depending on personality etc. If one thing isn't working try the next thing. It's all good. I spent most of my life in Radio and TV so I know that biz inside and out and how it can work for you (and somtimes against you.) Anyone who has my How-To and a Zibit is always welcome to get on the phone and call Toll Free to exchange ideas and get consultation...if you don't have the number ask in an eMail. I promise you I am NOT a Salesman when it comes to this stuff. Just the facts as I see them and good solid advise that has worked for a large amount of folks. I bend over backwards not to sell you stuff as I HATE a sales pitch or being sold because of an agenda to get something sold. I'll steer you straight and call it like I see it...but never tell you not to do something...it's your show! But there are reasons why something work or not work as a general matter of the way things go. As to Dough's post...I'd like to thank him for trying the Zibit first...It was cheap to do and had great potentioal which he was able to milk to it's fullest...then get's enough steam up and experience under his belt to build the idea he's had all along...and do it right wuith new insights...this is perfect...the way it should be. I came into this backwards as many know...I had bigger shows and a big hard top museum and many types of shows before I simplified to the Zibit show I now teach and offer. It really should work the way Dough is doing it. I don't know what show he wants to do BUT whatever show it is it MUST be done right and not half ass which I'm sure is what Doug is building for...a Top notch 'whatever it is'. Cool! Meanwhile the Zibit will keep on plugging. Couldn't be sweeter. Christian...Disney reloaded those shelves as soon as it closed for the night...they do not stock during t6he operating hours when therte are large quantities needed to reload. It's no ploy. I know the insiders. California is going STRONG...Florida is weak right now. California is mostly Local passholders and Florida NOT so local. This is what made Saturday so interesting...the local passholders were not there that day...blacked out...it was cash carrying money spending visitors enmasse.

Universal was buckling the belt I could tell, some days had hardly anyone. But that is a small venue compared to D-land. I think it was a slow holiday and people have some pent up spending. I know I just bought a needed TV for my room and Sears gave me an incredible offer on an incredible top of the line Sony LCD I couldn't refuse. WIth my blu-ray in there and the fantastic Paul Harris DVDs coming in a week or so, I'll simply become a hermit, except on Flea Market days

Disneyland does well most of the year because of about 700,000 or so regular attendinmg So Cal annual pass holders that attend regularly. Also this new promotion is already hugely successful...Free Birthday admission...there were countless bazillions it seemed who were wearing Birthday buttons on Jan 3rd. Each of course had a PAYING spouse or friends with them. Every cast member was wearing themselves out saying 'Happy Birthday!' to throngs of button wearers. From the street sweepers to the store 'leads'. Very well handled. Florida does not have that huge Local base to draw from. Here in SoCal people actuyally wear their Disney T-shirts in daily life...you won't see that loyalty in Florida so much. Florida is more a world destination and can suffer when it's a down year or season. Unfortunately some of Disneyland's resourses are being suspended so the funds can go to bolster the Florida operation. However my Daughter goes to D-World in Florida often and a few weeks ago she reported they had huge crowds there too, even at Animal Kingdom and the Studio park. What Disney calls a downturn would sustain any other place easily.

Too ease your feeble mind You technically never said "I wouldn't make any money" (hence the smiley face) I thought you might remember what we talked about even though it has been awhile. What you actually said " You will have more FUN doing yours but, will make MORE MONEY with a zibit" Which I am not so sure is true either because to have any more FUN I would have to be nekkid and everytime I've done that on the midway I got in trouble. To all other Zibeteers, I don't do many fleas but, I have done a few and may do few more and if that is your thing, a zibit was made for them and is the ONLY and I mean the ONLY way to go. Strictly by Dougs plan and don't alter it one bit. I do mainly night shows with my own artificial lighting but I have found on the day ones if you are using a white top and sides, which you should be, a dark color material draped between the frame and your tent top, it will get rid of the harsh bright white you get through the tent giving you a more subtle, gentler feel and look and still get plenty of light through the sides. Also if I conveyed anything negative about Doug's plan, didn't mean to, there aren't any negatives in Doug's plan. My new show that I mentioned will probably not work at a flea market, will DEFINATELY not fit in a 10x10 Is totally different to Doug's plan but, should compliment it nicely. I'll let you know how it goes Doug, but rest assured "IT" will be by my side.

Just call me for cripes sake and remind me what it is!! I'm excited for you and definately curious...remember, I was the one born every minute!
Yeah I forgot what we discussed...I only have about ten thousand guys telling me what they want to do or want me to do. Soon as the 'thing' leaves the house I'm concentrating on the next 9,999 things I need to get done and take care of. My feeble brain can only look forward and disassembles the past bits of info into generic categories, effectively removing names from the mix. I don't need to remember all that stuff...that's why they have and I GOT a Toll Free number!!!

Field Report # 2
Venue: Same flea as the first, this time on the busier Sunday. Weather was excellent. Place was PACKED. Customers: Over 300 human souls has to see the Zibit. I am not sure the exact number, as I made a few "family" deals, to put a lot of bodies in the tent and further generate interest. At 3 seperate times during the day I had lines! Still had reading time, then slow trickle time. Attitude: I stuck with friendly, positive, calm, and waited for them to approach me. Fun conversations after. I also thought I would try a little overkill (for a flea, anyways) politeness, and addressed most as Sir or Ma'am. I am guessing, for some of these folks, this was the first time they had ever been so addressed--the look I got from that simple show of respect, a few times, almost broke my heart. Complaints: Zero. Problem: When a big crowd had gathered, occasionally an excited kid would run in without paying. Usually real young. At the largest line/crowd, 3 adults also rushed in. No beef, just used the Higley gentle method. Still, I need better gate control, just inexperience. Comment of the day: "Oh yeah, I saw that on the Discovery channel!" Also heard a few comments about a mysterious place called Guanajuato... Dough thanks for the flyer idea, I did make 2 crude posters of the layout, with a red X at my spot, to put at the main entrances, a little mystery/treasure hunt. Doug, all makes a lot more sense now. I shall continue... |

Dang it! Just when I was about to scrape up the pennies and see if I could get enough together to get in on this, my wife's car (and she's the one who works now) goes kaflooie to the tune of $900! But oooooohmigosh, Balaram, you have me so intrigued with this! This sounds like one heck of a load of fun. Gotta wait, now, though (again!).
