I use the wooden rod from the bottom of a coat hanger.
I stepped up from the cardboard rod from a wire hanger some old guy used. It does look a little Harry Potterish though. But on the other hand it's probably older than most of you, lol.

Hi Dave, I moved down south to watch out for my mom and recouperate from an illness but Im feeling pretty good now and missing magic. Lately Ive been writing a book about the magic I made and the magicians I associated with and wanted to check in here and see if the Café was still going. Glad to see it is.

I knew you couldn't stay away, it gets in your blood. Ray is doing a wonderful job with your wands. He made one for me with walnut body and cherry tips and weighted ends. Of all I've had, this one is my favorite (except the little 9 inch pocket wand you gave me years ago)
I'll be on the lookout for your book.

A real quality person who cares about the Tabman Tables reputation as his own, and he does own it. When I was down, he covered me on some back orders and proved his mettle.

Thanks again Ray.
I had the chance to measure and draw all the wands in The Egyptian Hall Museum. Wands from Downs, Willard (the Bullet wand that Ray makes), Okito, Dunninger, Blackstone Sr, Ovette, and many others. It was an exciting relationship with David Price. He passed on a few years ago and I think his son sold the collection. I cant think of but two or three who could have afforded it.

Speaking of the Egyptian Hall Museum, here's a picture taken in 1990 during the Music City Conclave. Shown are David Price and Richard Hatch of H & R Magic Books after he (Hatch) had delivered a spellbinding lecture on the Magic of Hofzinser.

Wow! That takes me back! Tabby, that was the first time I gave that lecture for a group of "regular" magicians (non-collectors/historians). It was particularly memorable for me thanks to the presence of David Price and Fetaque Sanders. George Daily and Mike Caveney bought the Egyptian Hall Collection a few years ago for an undisclosed sum. After splitting up the stuff they wanted to keep, they had a major sale of the rest which was an unbelievable event. I was able to purchase the playbills of Frederick Eugene Powell shown on the table in front of my right leg in the photo above. They feature the name of my grandfather's brother, Hastings Clawson, who was managing Powell on that tour of Latin America circa 1910. Wow!

Yes, and both those gentlemen are now gone and the collection is broken up. I had part of the Ellison collection at the Tabman Shop for about two years. After Mr. Price passed on his son came blazing in and demanded it all. I had been slowly repairing the cigar box models, restoring the medicine bottle feet, etc, and David had let me take the Ellison wand collection to measure them and draw diagrams of them all. Young Price never offered to pay me for the work but I do have the drawings and measurements of the wands. I will probably include some of them in the Tabman Magic book.
Fantastic about the Hastings Clawson management. Synchronous that this photo of you and those very same posters should pop up. Do you know if the wand collection remained intact??

I am pretty sure that Mike Caveney has the wands in his wonderful collection in his fabulous home Pasadena, California (where I was born... not in Mike's home, but a nearby Hospital...)

Mike Caveny would have been my guess. I know he's a hands on guy. Thanks.
I'm quite glad that I was able to have hands on with a lot of that collection in Brentwood. Mr. price was a great old guy and now I am an old guy myself. I hope someday when Im gone that someone might way the same thing about me. We were all there at the right time in history. Right at the tail end of something great I think.

The wands (or some of them) were shown in an article in one of the magazines a few years ago (can't recall which one). I believe it said they were in Mike Caveney's collection.
I have a photo of the 'wand wall' that I took at David Price's place about 1986 or '87. I'll try to dig it out and post it here. You can't see the fabulous detail, but the vast number of wands is amazing.

Great. Looking forward to seeing the picture. I made detailed drawings of a number of them that interested me at the time with dimensions and details. I always loved seeing the 16" maple wood stick that Harry Kellar whittled with a pocket knife.

Someone please make a replica of Robert Houdin's wand. I love the shape on it.

I'm not making wands personally myself anymore (breathing wood dust about killed me) but I have a detailed drawing of the Robert-Houdin wand from the Price collection. It is both beautiful and elegant.
18" long, straight 1/4" in diameter made of dark wood (unidentified but looked a lot like very dark walnut) silver ferrules about 2" long on each end I made a Crystal Wand for Burton the Bizarre many years ago that fit these dimensions very closely but I used brass ferrules with a quartz crystal on one end. I also added the extra ferrule on the other end ala Okito. -=tabman
