I have been approached with the opportunity to open a kiosk selling magic tricks in a tourist location, and I was wondering if there's anyone out there in a similar business who wouldn't mind sharing some insight with a non-competitor (I'm definitely a non-competitor because there currently are no such kiosks in my area).

Please PM me. Thanks!

Be prepared for long hrs and usually a very high rent especially if its a mall location. No I have never run/owned a magic one but I am familiar with kiosk setups which are all very similar.Do your research before signing any lease. Best of luck!

Why call it common sense when it's so rare ?

I don't do kiosks, but I do pitch Svengali Decks, Magic Worms, Money Paddles and similar small pocket magic at street festivals and fairs, which is probably very similar. A tourist location sounds ideal for this type of thing IF the rent doesn't eat you alive.

I agree that it would be very long hours and pretty tough work unless you have an assistant who can take some of the load off of you. After a full day of pitching and basically working straight through for 7 or 8 hours, I'm pretty pooped; I doubt that I could do that day in and day out. And you definitely need to demo the stuff in order to sell it.

I would also consider holding down the number of items you sell, for two reasons. First, less inventory and less investment. Second, if you only have a limited number of items to sell, you also have a limited number to demo -- and believe me, most kids will want to see ALL the tricks before they decide how to spend their hard-earned money. I'd try Perry Maynard out in Las Vegas. Part of his operation is a kiosk at The Tropicana. It doesn't get much more high-traffic than that.
