What do you guys think of Blaine? If you're a purist, traditionally speaking what he's done is not truly street magic, but he has performed a lot in the streets so......

I wouldn't consider Criss a street performer. However, David Blaine may fit the bill. My favorite street performer is DynaMike.

The thing with Blaine & Angel...I'm sure they WERE street-mages at some point, but once they hit the big time & started using T.V....now theyre not. One of the things about street magic is that youre not some goth-made-up black-clad guy walking around with a camera crew & a contortionist, youre just an ordinary person with extraordinary powers.
Everybody wants to beleive.....we just help them along.

Basic_mystifier, look at what's behind the stunts, not just the stunts themselves. Reflect on that.
Getting back to street magic, I think db is very much an ordinary guy.

Yay, I just thought I'd point out that Blaine and Angel are in two different classes. Blaine used very little editing when it came to his levitation, but Angel completely abused the use of camera tricks and special effects. The stunts that Blaine performed were real stunts. The ones that Angel performed other than the hooks in his back hanging from a helicopter were not real. Another big difference between Blaine and Angel is that Blaine does a lot for charity, gives back to the community and has more respect in the magic circle that Angel. Also, Blaine is the godfather of modern day street magic. He started the revolution.

I would think that every "street magician" would aspire to be something more than just an ordinary guy. The streets are good way to get started in magic, but it should never become your goal. That is just entirely too limiting for a successful career.
Blaine realized he needed to do more than just tricks for small groups of people, the novelty wears off. Blaine has always wanted to do a "show" - he has been working on one for years now. (I don't mean a TV show, I mean a "magic show").

Why, because you didn't think of it first. Also, "Street magic" was the name of his special, not the name of what he was doing. Laypeople began to call it Street magic and magic shops all over wanted to capitalize on it and began using it as well.
At first it sounds like you have a problem with the word street magic, but then list your favorite street magicians.(hmmm)
You suggest that it would of been better to name it, "Walk About magic takes to the Street"
Thank God you weren't on his creative team. Although if Curious George ever comes out with a magic book, that might be a good name for it. "Curious George's Walk About Magic Takes To The Street"
