Any comments on this one? It looks like it could be a very versatile prop.
http://mikamecraft.ocnk.net/product/145 Finally, a way to utilize all of those silly different colored deck of cards I bought. |

We just got this item and a bunch of others from Miame. The Toyota box is a work of art. It works great too! Very clever and versatile. There are a lot of routines you can do with this box. It does come with English instructions with detailed photos and a couple of gimmicks that are needed. You should be able to order this from your favorite dealer now.

The advertising says it "looks only large enough to hold one deck of cards"... but I don't know... in the demo video, it looks suspiciously thick (like it could easily hold two decks, frankly). Anyone who's seen it in person able to comment?

I think Satoshi Toyota has reinvented Himber's Best, a similar card box without the m*****s and other gaffs. It was stainless steel and looked MUCH thinner, but I'm sure, having watched the demo, it worked the exact same way.

Well, from the video demonstration, the inside looks like it could only hold one deck of cards. I agree that it looks big from the outside, but if the inside looks like it can only hold one deck, I don't consider it false advertising.

Can I assume those are full decks of cards and not some kind of shell?
There were a few weird edits in the demo, but maybe that was just to shorten it's length. |

The Yoyota Box is built with the usual Mikame Craft quality and is a utility item that can be used several ways. The basic use is for a deck s----h which the box does very well in its own fashion. I get hung up on deck s-----es usually relying on the good-ole pocket method, but I do like gadgets that will do the same thing.
This "gadget" works well, but I would suggest some practice sessions in handling. From the outside the box does look thick, but when it is opened the illusion is quite good. The bottom section holding the deck of cards looks large, but the top is noticeably smaller. The eye is drawn to the larger portion. The box requires a simple move for misdirection. I would think that the box could be made to look smaller with the addition of some well placed trim, but Mikame likes the plain look that gives most of their work the "well made" attention. Sometimes they are in the magic business, other times they are in the beautiful woodwork business. On those occasions when the two come together the resulting product is outstanding. For those interested, the box comes in three sections: top, bottom and insert. The insert can be removed if one feels the need. The gimac will not be discovered. There are a couple of things you must do when you first get the box that you must be careful in doing. You must do some work with the decks you choose to use and placement of certain items must be done carefully or the decks will not exactly fit in the box. This, however, doesn't take too much time. The instructions do no cover this part completely. I received two sets of instructions, one in Japanese and the other in English. The English version is OK with pictures, two pages back and front. Easy enough to understand. The instructions include suggestions for three additional effects with a cellphone, silks and a mental effect with cards. Additional props are not supplied. The instructions also imply that the box is going to be in the same catagory as a th....b t..p and a dye t......e insofar as it is a simple item containing many possibilities. I don't think so. I don't know if I will use this or not. I have relied on the old "Deck Switcher" side-by-side box for so long. "Deck Switcher" relies on suggestion, Toyota Box relies mainly on illusion. I don't know which is better. You will have to decide for yourself. I do wish Mikame would have added a little bit of nice trimming to heighten the illusion.
Success to all.

Thanks for your post Jhard! I am also considering to purchase it and have some questions that I would like to clarify:
1) Does the box fit two entire decks? Can one switch an entire deck for another complete deck? 2) Can one switch out a pile of cards (without a case) instead of switching a deck of cards? 3) To what extent can the box be handled by a spectator? - I intend to let a spectator mix some cards and then put the deck in the box. I then do the move (which is quite blatantly demonstrated in the video), let the spectator guard the box sitting on a table. Let spectator open the box, take out deck and handle the deck. Is this possible using the Toyota Box? Regards, Gray |

For the past week I have been using the Toyota Box in this manner: I use the box to carry some close-up tricks (i.e. coins, pencil, small post-it pad, etc.) I begin by opening the box and removing the first effect, then the second, etc. After about three tricks the box is empty, I look at it and say, " Well, I guess that's all for tonight"....or something to that effect...and then I place everything back in and put the lid on the box. Then, as an afterthought, I continue...."Oh, but you haven't seen my favorite card trick.".....or something like that as an excuse to open the box again. The lid is removed and...viola... there is a deck of cards which is removed, the other stuff has vanished..and you continue.
This has worked well for me. Put your own spin on this and see how it plays.
Success to all.

Well I just got my Toyota Box today and although it's not what I thought---I have to admit I'd buy it all over again! It's very very nice and the method used opens this up to many effects. It is very nicely made (as expected) and looks very clean. I would recommend this to people who want to do a card box change as well as making things turn into something else. I'm very glad I ordered this and I will use it a lot.

Mr. Gray,
I believe you will like this. I will use it for a deck switch only. After you open the box and show the cards you are able to hand them to the spectator to mix and then put back in the box and hand it to you. You then cover it and can hand it to someone else for "safe keeping". And one little move and you have the deck switch. It's that good and simple---perfect for a working situation. Hope that helps too---I'm very pleased with mine. Good magic to all, Eric |

I have the premonition box.
http://www.penguinmagic.com/specialorderproduct.php?ID=9927 Is Toyota box more deceptive and natural than premonition box? The latter is less thick (4cm) than Toyota box (4,5cm). |

I can say this, the Toyota Box is really nice. It does seem large when closed---however when you open the box and you pull out the deck your using it looks like that is all you had in there. It is very very clever. I recommend it especially for deck switches.
Can you tell me if the Premonition Box is also a deck switch? The only way I can see that to be is if the flip side also has the pencil dice and paper. If it is not a switch deck box ---man someone needs to invent that one it would be great. I hope this helped you. If you need more info let me know ok? Good magic to all, Eric |

Gumbystock,
Yes, the premonition box is to switch decks, based on the same principal as Fantasio Deck swither or Himber wallet. |
