OK, OK don't get excited about my post. I guess I was wrong. I mean I'm only human and we all make mistakes sometime. I guess he's still selling them. He just hasn't had them listed anymore recently on his website and someone told me they were extremely limited and no longer available and were collectors items now. So if I'm wrong, then I apologize.

BTW--I don't know what you mean by "he just hasn't had them listed anymore recently on his website," but I can tell you that Bob's website hasn't been up for quite a while (I believe that's one of the reasons he's selling the Goose and "Confessions of Needle Swallower" on eBay.) Bob's website was off the 'net long before he and Steve started selling the Goose. So, as far as I know, the Goose was never on his website. |

Hi Guys,
The Mindreading Goose is still available only directly through me. I do have an e-bay store now for convenience but you can also contact me if you don't like e-bay at bobkohler@cox.net For the last year I closed my website down to concentrate on other business interests. I am building a new site that will have many upgrades. I've also got six more blockbusters in my pipeline... Bob |

As I am mainly a kids show magician I always start with magician in trouble routines ie silver sceptre or bloomin' bush. It encourages the children to join in, watch closely, point and shout out without leaving their seats.

Did you ever expect any? The only good thing about this thread is that we know we can still get a goose if we want one from Bob.

Jeff and Frank,
I've send him a PM a few weeks ago concerning this topic and the other relating topics he opened, but still didn't get an answer or a little explanation from him why he's not posting comments or replies. Appearantly lost time to run after him. At least I know what to think of him... Sad, very sad. Oliver. |

Still seems risky to me. Even if you had a flashing LED that says...
"House Magician!!!" on your lapel, nobody's all that eager to give up a personal artical quickly. Or maybe I just don't understand what you're saying clearly enough.

I perform Newsflash torn & restored Newspaper with a powerfull music.
It takes 45 seconds and I have my first "Oughhhhh" reaction. After the restauration I have a oneliner to the restoration and then I introduce myself. That works for me very well. Axel Hecklau |

I have several openings I have done for parlor. I generally come on to music (theme from Forest Gump) and do the legs table. Then I say, don't worry about the table, its on its last legs anyway.
I then do a tt silk vanish, call for an audience member to hold up their wallet or eyeglass case, and retrieve the silk. Other times, if I use continued music, I do the dye tube. Then my silk to wine glass. ----- My stage act is very similar to parlor. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7RkkR-AdGQ I have also opened with my Dances with ropes effect.

Here's mine. To music, I walk on with gloves and do:
-Rope to silk routine -rose production from silk -gloves to streamer I may add in an appearing cane at the end of it all. Still waiting for it to arrive. |

I open with the Miser's Dream........it's big, loud and flashy....everyone likes money......you get to work the audience.....and it gets their attention right at the beginning of your performance.

I produce multiple large silks from thin air, vanish some candles to silks. I have a bouquet of red roses but with one white. I perform the 3 color changing rose to get it the right color then follow that with Flower Power (throw a bunch of red rose pedals in the air and touch a rose to them to change colors, then the rose magically turns into a bouquet. This is all done to music.
At times I follow that up with "Enchanted Egg". There's just something my crowds seem to love about changing white rose pedals into an egg, then cracking it to confirm it is indeed real. A really great way to close an opener and begin the show. Most times I follow that with a Silk To Egg routine .. the one by Dan Harlan on his Tarbell lessons involving fire. Without a doubt my favorite silk to egg routine. Depending on the crowd, I often include Misers Dream in the mix somewhere. My openers are also determined by the event .. I wouldn't do the same opener for a corporate show as I would for a child birthday party. Goes without saying probably. First impression is paramount. You have to get their attention quick, make them smile and gasp right away to show them what they're in for. It all depends on your style, the crowd .. and how the two mesh. Big, flashy, loud and quick is best. |

There is some great advice and thought in the first pages of Tarbell Volume Three on opening your show. Many examples are provided that past masters used to open their acts. Well worth reading.

Great advice, Scott. Thank you. I completely agree..
As Denny Haney says...and he says it often, I might add..."Hey.......it's in Tarbell" And, I would like to expand on that thought.... In my personal opinion, every SERIOUS student of Magic should have a working Library of The Classics of Magic, and STUDY them....and of course The Tarbell Course in Magic is one of, if not THE seminal Magic Books which features a "Lifetime Instruction Course in the art being a GREAT Magician AND Performer." And yes, the examples of the past Masters' "Openers" as well as their routines are VERY worth reading. Lots of variety there......and more importantly....it demonstrates that "PACING" is one of the KEYS To having a GREAT Magic Act. It pays to study and do your homework......THEN......do what works for YOU...... |

Another fine resource is "Programmes of Famous Magicians" illustrated by Hahne, put out by Magic Inc. However it is out of stock. Not just parlor but many different kinds of magic. Get it if you can.
