The videos go into very detail explaining the tricks and at the same time explain what material you need to you. if you plan to buy the videos, you should have most of your questions answered.
You can buy magician wax from any Magic shop. Of course, there are other subsitutes replacement you can use too. It really depends on your trick and where you want to apply the wax. |

Don't use magicians wax for thread work. It's too soft and the thread will cut through it. It's also effected by heat and can make a mess.
Use Putty. |

And what putty? Flesh colored? Won't you see that on the card/coin/whatever?

It all depends on what hook up you are using the putty can be colored so it's up to you.
The kind of putty is the stuff you can find in department and office supply stores. Click here and you'll see that you have a wide variety to choose from. It's not effected by heat, the thread won't cut through it as easily and it'll stick even when it's cold (wax gets hard when cold). To make it flesh colored used make up. To make it black use a marker. Just color it, mix it and color it some more until you reach the color you want. If you do have any trouble with thread cutting through the putty just put a small core inside it (Like a tiny piece of paper). This will prevent the thread from cutting through. I usually make mine black. Here's why. For one thing if I'm using a thread reel and it flies back into my jacket. I tiny putty ball would be less noticeable then a bright color. You can also stick it to the face of a face card (Jack, Queen, King) and some clubs and spades and it won't be seen very easily. Ron Jaxon |

Good luck Sanderr
IT is a long journey, can remember my first steps. Spent more time with IT than I ever want to remember Am not user familiar with the Tarantula but my guess would be you may be best learning basic IT work first. If you get frustrated (we all did at first learning IT) you may regret making the investment, however if you learn basic IT work than the Tarantula would be a great addition. As strange as this sound the hardest thing to learn in the beginning for me was ... ... preparation Once learned IT can allow you to create very magical, intriguing and visually appealing effects. Once you are comfortable let your imagination & creativity loose Ron Jaxon is doing some very interesting work with IT, watched the videos. Very nice

At penguin magic they have the "Flesh colored putty". Can I use that too? Because then I can order it with the DVD.
Also, I once bought the Hummer Card, and you get thread with it. Can I use that thread or should I buy different thread? Posted: Apr 12, 2009 10:11am Nobody has an answer to this question? |

You can defintely use putty -- many people like it more than wax. I would think you can use the same thread.

IT is a big subject. It really depend what trick you are going to perform. It will then drive what wax/putty, what thread and what type of hookup required.
Whether it is stage or close-up? bright or dark? color of your clothes and backdrop? facing the audiences or surrounded? how heavy the object you want to levitage? These are some (but not all) questions you need to answer before you can determine the "equipments" required. Sounds confusing? It actually is. My suggestion is if you are new to IT, follow the instructions in the book / video, usually it will tell you what you need to prepare. If it is a package trick, most likely the gimmic is already included. Once you are familiar to IT, then you can fine tune your "tools". Ron: Thanks for the ebook! It is great! |

So, I think I made my choice: ETMTM vol. 1 and Flesh colored putty. Maybe some thread too, or can I use the thread I got with the Hummer card? If I bought thread, is Kevlar Invisible thread a good choice?

You can use your Hummer thread. If you buy some Kevlar, get the cheapest you can find until you see if you like it.

The problem with getting it cheap is that I don't live in the USA, so I will have to pay (quite) high shipping costs, especially if I buy something cheap. So I guess, I'll just use this thread, and then I can maybe later on order some (better) thread along with some other stuff, to "compensate" the shipping. Btw, I order in the US because it's WAY cheaper than in Holland.

Putty?!? That's a great idea. I have been going nuts with the IT slicing through the wax.
Thanks Allan |

I want to buy IET and loops, but what kind of IET? Is Silk Worm a good choice, and what colour? Is SW black hard to strip? Or another "brand" of IET?

For me, Silk Worm shines way too much I am currently trying others and I will let you know my findings.

I am currently using Lycra from stockings, because I don't have other thread. However, I find the thread is very visible, already without it shining, which also is a major problem for this thread. How does the Lycra compare with Silk Worm? And what colour Silk worm do you have? Maybe the black thread isn't as shiny as the clear...

I think, from what I've read, the clear shines but the black does not, or not very visible. On the other hand, the black is said to be more visible on your skin. That's what I know.
