The effect: A cassette tape is hanging in a box the whole show, audience members are choosen at random (throwing balls, frisbee ect), three people come onstage, asked three questions (I used what is your birthday, pick a number 0-100, and what is your favorite state - these could obviously be different or have a story to tie them together). These are written on a large sketch pad. One of the spectators got the tape put it in the cassette player (run off batteries, no cords running to it), pressed play and the message will be heard with you naming off all three things (also throwing in there if it was a male that selected it or a female). A mic is held in front of the cassette player for all to hear, but the audio is truly coming out of the cassette player speakers. The tape is then given away.
The nice parts: Only one tape is used, no switches or special tapes. The audience members are really random, the answers they give are different every time. The magician never repeats their answers (as some people think his voice is recorded as he says them again). Tape really has the message on it and can be given away.

Copperfield's still using it in 2011 too. He does predictions with it, of course! But he does it only as a subset of his entire prediction effect.
