Mandarin and funsways posts just above mine are very good advice. It sounds like you need to widen the number of people you show magic to, in addition to working on making tricks entertaining. I learnt tricks, and didn't have the spectators. Rather than waiting for people to ask me to show them some magic I took the initiative and went out performing Street Magic with a set show. That got me involved in performing. Go up to the top of this thread, down to the 4th post, by Father Photious. He talks of the entertainment value of magic. I invented my signature line years ago when I realized that the trick is just one part of what magic is about.

The performance makes the magic.

Working at a school, I have to balance my work and request to share magic.

Sometimes I have someone pick a card and then move on to what we were talking about.

Other times I do something like lengthen my ring finger and then "shrink" it back to its regular length.

A few times I will go into a multiple pick a card with 4-7 people selecting cards. (thanks to Doc Eason)

We should always be one step ahead...or two!!!
Be confident in yourself, if you have performed before and practice properly it's as if you were born ready!
Learn from the experience that's why it happened, right!

Many times, I have learned more from a show (or even an impromptu bit) that did not go perfect/good than one that did.

My favorite in that situation is Paul Harris's 11 card trick (that uses 11 cards).

I am really trying to have three card tricks down pat--8 Card Brainwave, Chicago Opener, and Twisting the Aces.
