MAK has put up a price for the 2 different sets

Retail for the normal 3 DVD set is $79 and only $199 for the collectore set.
I can't wait to see the finished product.

Fantastic. I grew up swooning over all the exotic props in the Mak Magic catalogue. Love seeing UF Grant doing some of this stuff!

The Cards in Hat intro is interesting, does anyone know if this is in print?

Thanks,

Dave

Jim King at MAK said it is not in print but is the explanation is on the DVD that the clip came from.

Hope that helps!

"Gen" Grant was a true genius at magical invention. Who would you say is most like him today?

That is a great question! I would say by sheer numbers, Jay Sankey and for sneaky techniques and clever magic, my vote goes to Max Maven (Phil Goldstein)

I guess the first set of Grant DVDs were released on November 1st.

Anybody seen them yet?

I am waiting on mine now and am anxious to see what everyone thinks!

MY reply:

OF COURSE this routine is in print!...

Grant provided "Refresher" Lecture Notes for his Sound Movie Lectures. "Cards in Hat" can be found in the Grant's Refresher Notes #2; page 8.

MAYBE what Jimmy King at MAK meant - is that the routine is not found in the more common readily-available UF Grant manuscripts.

I believe that Moxahalla is correct. If you can find one of the old sets of lecture notes he mentioned, treasure them as there are not a lot of them floating around. I have some of the newer manuscripts from Don Tanner and they have some great stuff in them.

Carroll/Jimmy/MAK:

The contents of the so-called "UNPUBLISHED SECRETS" booklet in the Deluxe DVD Set (listed below)---appear to simply be manuscripts that most Grant collectors already own (such as myself).

Can you tell me WHY they are advertised as "UNpublished"?...and why many of them are included anyway on the REGULAR DVD Set's PDFs??

Jim Sr. said that they had checked with some Grant collectors and they didn't have some of the booklets.

A few of them hadn't been in print since the early 70's. Many of them were printed in the 30's and 40's and thought would make a good addition to the set.

I think that they should have used the term out-of-print instead of "unpublished" but either way, I was glad to see some of the old stuff that I didn't have.

I believe honestly, there is no one like Gen Grant. It was told that Gen Grant would go into 5&10 Stores, Hardware Stores and the like. As you browsed about, he would see items and magic creations would come to mind. They came to being from him and not a compilation of minds.

No one has ever been able to do this except Gen Grant. What a fantastic mind. Just try it, I have and have never came up with anything totally new magic apparatus.

Magic has suffered greatly from the lose of Gen Grant.

I know some people who are a bit like Gene Grant but not to the extent like Gene and not everybody is willing to share, market and publish these ideas. So I have to agree with wmhegbli that there is nobody like Gene Grant and most likely never will be.

There will be many more Gene Grant booklets being offered as ebooks at the Lybrary. I have a whole stack to work through. Smile

Chris:

Friendly correction...it's GEN Grant, NOT "Gene".

Nor to be confused with curent magician "General Grant".

A bit confusing -- I have a book by Robert Nelson in which he is called Gene (Phantini) Grant.

Anyone know what the contents is on each DVD? Are they entertaining to watch or are some better than others or is one a CD rom of PDfs.
I can not find much info on what you will see or learn on the 3 disk set since every dealer is only printing the ad copy from the manufacturer.
