As an addendum to the above: I have been working with this for several days now and found a nice touch that will mislead the audience further. When you 1st pick up the wand from its resting place. Strike the silk with the none business end of the wand. This will put off the audience as to what will occur shortly. For some unknown reason, I was holding the silk at my fingertips to the left of my body. I have since adjusted it to the center of my body and find this is much better for performance.
I forgot to mention that the wand comes with a heavier weight silk hank 7" x 7" square. This is silk material, just a little sturdier feeling then the silks for the TT that most of you may be familiar with in your working repitwa. I have not tried a 12" silk yet, I want to understand the working of this wand device 1st. My experience thus far, is the silk that came with it is holding up very well, it is not running or getting large holes or ripping in any way, with all the trials of this wand. |

If you can catch Fukai in a convention,he sells a very wellmade one...I don't know if he manufactures them but I know he sells a lot of them in conventions.
My best, Hansel!

The end cap had 2 types of threading, much like the you find on plastic bottles. Easy to insert and only a small twist will lock it in place. Yes, the gimmick loader cold be longer, (You could make one long enough if it really bothers a person that much.) but I guess they did not take that into consideration when they ordered the box it was shipped in. So they had to make the loader the same length as the wand. I do find this takes a few seconds longer, but it is all worth it for a really magical Flash vanish of a silk. There is not many, real looking magic effects on the market so this little fishing challenge, I can put up with. Acrobatic Silks come to mind as a magical silk trick, as well as the Appearing Cane. Posted: Jan 3, 2010 12:50pm Update!! I have solved the loader problem for anyone that wishes to know, just open the pull ring slightly. This allows the loader to be lowered another inch or more and thus solves the problem of "fishing" for it. This is really a fun prop! 4 days now and I am still discovering many new things about it and it's working! |

I like to hold the silk up, hold the wand close to the silk.........look the other way whilst you tap the silk with the wand. Look back, you are perplexed.the silk is gone!

Excellent idea iugefu!!!
Posted: Jan 5, 2010 8:18pm Update 2!!! Well, I have tried a 12" silk with this model. It works but does not fully vanish. Looks like a 9" silk will work just fine, if struck in the middle of the hanky. Now is the time to make 1 out of brass. I am off the the hobby shop to find a 15" x 3/4" brass tubing. I hope the gimmick will work, being an inch longer. We will see in the tests. |

I haven't tried this yet, but I'm told that if you work a little powder (talc, baby, fanning) into the silk that when it vanishes it leaves a residual puff of smoke, as though it vanished into the ether!

I just purchased the steel model from Germany, sold through Mak Magic as well. It is longer but smaller in diameter then the plastic model. It is really heavy and the wand will last a lifetime, but it does not come with the additional gimmick as the advertisement claims. When Mak Magic was confronted with their ad, they just said they do not know anything about it. What?
It also comes with a 7" silk hanky. Works well, but being the gimmick end is shorter and finer, it takes work to get use to it and to use the proper technique in striking the hanky. I have had special silks made by Hughes Magic trying to find the proper silk length. It will not vanish a 12" silk, mainly because, the wand is so small, the girth of the silk sticks in the opening. Trying custom diagonal cut silks next. |

I have some blanks made by a machinist friend. 5/8 o.d. X 16" long. Still working on the innards though finding the right gimmick strength. I did not see this thread soon enough as I asked my local brick and mortar shop to order me one/ some and he came up empty handed. back ordered without any foreseeable delivery date so I took it upon myself to experiment. I will contact Viking.

http://www.makmagic.com is the supplier of both the India plastic model and the German Steel Model. Viking sold out and has been in this status for some time. So, tell your dealer to order from Mak Magic, they do have a minium order $ amount for the dealers, so that is probably the problem.

I can in fact recommend the German model if you use the supplied 7" silk.

Thank you. I have a few questions, hope you don't mind.
You mentioned you were going to try out diamond cut silks-did that work out? ( for 9 inch silks I mean ) Can you elaborate on what 'didnt come with the wand that you had to make up?..............im very very bad with making things up. On the other hand I can guess what it is, so if you feel its unethical to write about it here, up to you. Finally, when you have practised striking the silk with the wand, would you be so confident as to say it works 100% all the time? |

It works 100% of the time if you perform the correct action when striking the silk 100% of the time. You must hit the silk with a strike and pull back kind of action. This you must practice and not forget or it will not work 100% of the time. So in other words, it is not self working, the person must do the correct actions correctly.
Diamond Cut silks do not work, as it is thick in the middle. I got more silks from Richard Hughes and I found the 9" diagonal silks work with the metal wand. The plastic version makes a noise when it vanishes, I came up with a method to silence the noise with the plastic wand. The solution is very easy to make, a 1st grader can make it. |

On 2011-04-29 00:02, tropicalillusions wrote: No it does not tear up the silk. If you use the silk that comes with the models, it is a heavy rayon mix I would guess. I only had to tug a little and it was back to normal. If done correctly, you do get a hole, but that hole disappears like magic with a tug here and there. I had Richard Hughes make me a number of silks, in his heavier weight silk, and they have lasted a lot of practice sessions. As with any delicate material, handling it like a woman with soft care and attention to the fabric will of course last a longer amount of uses. Of course if you mis-handle the silk and pull and tug and rip it about, it will not last very long. Some people respect their props and other don't, so this is the main factor to your question. It is like sticking a sewing needle in your finger, then pull it stright out. Is your finger all torn up, will it heal, same thing. |
