There is a pre-release thread regarding this effect, a lot of excitement and anticipation, and then... silence. Are there any Meteors purchasers who care to give us a review?

I think they may still be on the way to some dealers and Magicians, they just came in to stock. you should hear something soon. I saw them and they are very well made and you get some extras too work with (you know when you get them) will be fun to see how people use them.

I thought I'd get mine today... No Such luck! I'll post my first few thoughts of it when it arrives. I just hope it's practical. Can I get into it and out of it without any awkward movements?

Be aware that with that price point, this may be the rip off version which is VASTLY inferior.

If that is the case, then you should report the item as a possible copy.
Juan deserves all the support he can get on this product - he was very brave to put it out to the magic world.

The highest bid is currently $140 on ebay.

And it appears to be the real deal and not a rip-off.

Just do Google Meteors Magic Trick ebay and it will come up.

I this is a BAD post go ahead and delete it.

I got my meteors and I think its actually really nice! Sadly though there are certain things that it requires that don't really suit my style. Also though you could shake someones hands with it without being noticed, I also think that it is much better for a parlor or street kind of thing.

End case everyone who wants it for what it's effect is would love it but for someone who wants to use it just as a more magical gesture like I did, it just wouldn't be worth the effort.

I'm editing my post to remove a link to an eBay auction that had multiple Meteors listed for a "buy it now" price of $179.95. I just realized that the item is located in China, I'm guessing it must be a counterfeit at that price. China's biggest challenge in the future will be creating a culture of respect for property rights. It just doesn't seem to exist there now.

Bobbert, can you tell me if you can go right into the effect after doing some coins/cards magic or do you have to "get ready" in private just before performing the effect ? I would also like to know the minimum distance that you can perform this effect without being caught...

.... last question : Is there any clothing requirement for this effect ?

Thanks!

Cards yes, coins no. that's due to the properties of the structure of most card effects vs coin effects. However you could do coin magic if you were somewhat at a distance from the person (few steps back). I would say that you can go right up to the person unnoticed but once you start doing meteors itself, you have to be a few steps back.

You can't perform it naked well you could but I would not want to conceal a battery pack that way.

The is no clothing requirements and the distance is not an issue as the lights are very very bright.

Just first thoughts and impressions. If you want, I'll post more later once I play around with it some more. There are some additional things I need to get to go along with it.

I just received Meteors. I feel good about the investment and don't feel qualified yet to offer a review- just thoughts. I only know the workings and have watched the DVD. The DVD is well-produced and explained. It is dubbed by a voice over, but it still works. He explains it well and seems like a great guy. I love the comedy routine he included! My thoughts are when I perform bdays and the show is over and they are doing the cake etc, I can suit up in it, and then while then come out and do one more bonus trick with the comedy routine, then take the time to take it all off properly while they finish their cake.

Juan gives you two sets which I thought was good. You're wired from head to toe and the system that runs it is really cool. Makes me feel better about the price. You get to program your own routine too. I like that time isn't a factor and you still control when it switches. Programing seems fun and he gives you easy instructions for the youtube routine. All this is good.

There's a lot more to it than d'lites. I'm not sure yet if it's worth all the trouble. I'm still excited about giving it a go on stage- no way for close-up.

Knowing what I know, I would never wear this around and perform other tricks. You get two sets b/c it is fragile. I wouldn't want to risk it. Sure you could, but I would hold back I think. I am not planning on performing any close-up with it either. The meteors are small- yes! Very small, smaller than I would ever imagine! I'm more worried about what keeps it attached to the hand being noticed and something else too that is attached to it.

Other concerns to think about is the fact that you need about 5-10 minutes to set this up. I usually have my juggler do a 10 minute act in the middle of my show, so I think that will work to set up behind the curtain. I'm really concerned about how I will continue the rest of my show all wired up. It is possible I suppose to perform other tricks with it attached, but I would feel stressed about it and not very free. They are fragile and expensive.

The question about the ball- yes I think it would work to still palm, but you would place the meteors higher or lower than your palm.

All and all I feel pretty good about it and have to figure out how to get around some of the limits it has. So far, my thoughts are only for stage and maybe a bday if I can set it up. I hope I can find a way to make the close up work. So far I don't know.

Sounds very impractical based on this review. I'm not sure I like the idea of being wired "head to toe". Any other thoughts from people who own this?

Yep, sadly I can't myself because I can't do anything but cards hahahaha.

Sorry Jack, I missed your last question yes you need to wear a long sleeve jacket or shirt and such. You are in fact wired head to toe which is abit awkward but whatever, its something you likely just get used to.

I spoke with Joe Stevens of Stevens Magic today (he is one of the dealers that carries this). He said that this is designed to be performed by itself as a manipulation act. He gave, as an example, performing at the Crazy Horse Saloon in Paris. If you have a 20 to 30 min. (or more) act, you would not be hired to perform there...a short act like this would be more fitting.

I was a little put off by the extent of the wiring as well, so tried to sell mine after watching the DVD but didn't get the asking price. Therefore I'll be using it. First gig is a Blue and Gold in front of about 200 people on the 27th. I have a fun idea (I hope) for a quick routine with Meteors to tag onto the beginning of a card trick. I'll post the reaction/results.

I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.

Didn't wind up using it in that B&G show, because there was another routine I wanted to do which really wasn't compatible with the set-up for this. You need to put some thought (probably more than normal) into routining this into the show if you want to use it.

I thought I'd post my performance of the original version of meteors. I wish I could work a venue where I could perform this. It's just a lot of fragile set-up...

It was almost like street performing while filming. Lots of the cars stopped to watch.

That last video looks great but I have to ask myself, how magical is it to a layman? The production of a light or orb or whatever is great but passing an object from hand to hand is not magical...not in a laymans mind. With the exception of a few "through the air" passes, and through the hand (which looks great BTW) the rest is just passing a light from hand to hand. Just some thoughts.

Grasshop34 - your video is terrific! Great performance, and great choice of background for the shoot. The lights in the sculpture garden add atmosphere and complement your routine nicely. Did you shoot this to use as a promo on your website?

PCoreyB - agree that passing the light hand to hand, by itself, isn't that amazing (other than the fact that you have a nuclear reaction going on in your palms, that is...), but don't you think it's a good set-up for what comes later? People get comfortable with it and think they know what to expect, then you confound their expectations.

This effect seems to be eye candy more than anything, but it's high-quality eye candy that provides a nice break from the traditional, and looks like the sort of thing we associate with wizards. I put this aside for awhile, but Grasshop34's demo "lit the fire" again. Gotta figure out a way to routine this into a show.

I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.

By the way, there's no need to do the hand-to-hand passes if they aren't your thing. You can eliminate that phase entirely if you want. You can get creative with this. If you could substitute a blue LED for the red one that comes with Edo's Comet effect, you could apparently penetrate the blue light into a bottle of soda, then pull it out again with the other hand, for instance.

I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.

The possibilities are endless, as you can program Meteors pretty much however you want. For something tried and true, you could produce and pop a series of lights into your mouth with alternating hands, then produce a string of blue lights from your mouth (a D'Lite product). Just one idea...
