Ok, so years ago (in the 80's), my father bought me a "Rocky" after seeing Dave Williamson perform it in a shop (I think) in DC.
My Rocky has since passed away from over use and now I am in the market for a new one. The problem is there seems to be a few different versions out there. I want the most realistic and I see MagicMakers is making 3 of them. I know one is just a smaller version, but what is the difference between "Reality" and "Robbie"? If "Reality" is really the most realistic, then why not just sell it as "Robbie"? And which of all of these products is the most realistic in your opinion (including the FOX and Skunk)? http://www.magicmakersinc.com/magictricks/springanimals.html Thanks for your help. John |

I have been using the search, but haven't found comparative posts. I have only found performances and such.

Hi John
I believe this is the original "Rocky" http://www.magicmasters.com/store/produc......stseller as for... "what is the difference between "Reality" and "Robbie"? If "Reality" is really the most realistic, then why not just sell it as "Robbie"? Marketing I suppose. I would stick with the original Rocky from Magic Masters |

Ok,
I have found some comparative posts but still am left wondering. I see some posts where the Magic Masters Rocky is loosing quality, and still some where the Robbie is horrible quality. I still wonder about the Reality version. Does the Magic Makers versions have their spring wrapped in a plastic bag or something. Can you hear that make noise? Has anyone recently gotten any of these and the quality was good? |

John,
I have no first hand experience with "Robbie"( Magic Makers version) but have always heard nothing but negative reviews about it. On the other hand, I have a "Rocky" from Magic Masters that I have used for many years and have found the quality to be good. Just my 2cents |

Wdwfan71, thanks. I am seeing the same thing as I dig deeper.
Separate slightly off thread question here: Why is the raccoon so much more popular than the skunk or fox? |

Otherjohn,
I have both Robbie the Raccoon and Reality Raccoon from Magic Makers, Inc. I'm looking at the boxes, and my particular Robbie was manufactured in 2006, while my Reality Raccoon was in 2007. The Reality Raccoon in my opinion, is much better. The ears are more realistic (they are merely felt ears on Robbie), the eyes are two colors, the nose and facial whiskers are more defined on the Reality Raccoon. The fur and tail seem to be very similar on each, it's the facial details that make the Reality Raccoon the better choice. The DVD that came with each is the same DVD however, and the demonstrations are with the Robbie Raccoon. Doug |

Excellent Doug!
How is the spring on those. |

The spring seems identical on each. When I first got them, I didn't think the spring was strong enough to make the jumping moves that I had seen other people demonstrate. However, after watching the instructional DVD, I found that your little finger assists in propelling the raccoon, and it's not just the spring that causes it to jump.
The price sticker on the Robbie is $30. The Reality doesn't have a price sticker on it, but I think I bought it at a convention for either $30 or $35. I actually bought two so I could do some teleportation stuff for the kids. Doug |

If nothing else maybe it's just the raccoon's appearance. Maybe some others will chime in with there thoughts. |

I use Sweat Pea the Skunk which is more synthetic, but a lot cheaper (Loftus sells them). I think the corresponding one is Roxie the Raccoon. Put googly eyes on these and they have a cartoony look which I think makes them more fun than the more real looking ones. The cartoony ones are more suitable for small kids.

I have the Reality Raccoon. I bought it because the face looks so much more real and the eyes are amazing. But warning, it is much more fragile than the original Rocky. Mine's ears broke off relatively quickly, probably due to my slamming the guy on my table when I say "play dead." So, treat him nice and he should do okay.

I just purchased a Real "rocky" from http://www.theambitiouscard.com/.
I probably will try the reality raccoon later and maybe the robbie JR one. But for now I will stick with the tried and true. I will post a review of this one I get shortly. |

I purchased what I believe to be a Robbie Raccoon from Bob Little. I say "what I believe to be" because Bob had no box or bag for it. It was a loose item. Nevertheless, it looks fairly good. When practicing with it, I have noticed that it literally sheds. When I am done performing, it is as if I just pet the neighbor's dog. I have hairs all over my shirt. Do all of the raccoons on the market shed or is it just the Robbie Raccoon version? I am curious as to what those who have the Magic Masters Rocky Raccoon and the Reality Raccoon have to say about this. Thanks.

The real Rocky Raccoon does not shed. In fact, mine has lasted for almost 20 years - with me performing a couple of times a month.

Ok, I just got my "Real Rocky" (by magic makers) and I have to say I am severly disappointed.
This thing is horrible!!!! It is shedding (even after hitting it with a blow dryer). The spring is pathetic and not so springy. The spring is not a tube shape but has a smaller shape in the middle (I speculate its more of an hourglass shape. The spring feels short. There is about 2 inches of excess skin at the butt where the spring would normally fill out. The head is over stuffed and makes it hard to manipulate the head. The tail is twisted in a way that you can clearly see the seams of the tail from a few feet away. The nose looks horrible and is distorted and you can see the threads from a few feet away. I can't believe this was the same company that made the original. I am so disappointed! I owned one back in the 80s and it was so much more than this. I am going to order the other "Rocky" and hope it's made much better. John |

Otherjohn, magic makers doesn't make the real rocky. You bought Robbie the raccoon, which is as you have seen, crap its the cheap knock off. I could tell the magic makers on was bad because on their video, Ben is using the raccoon and you could see all the fur flying around, it was shedding really bad! Check out http://www.magic.org/store/product_info.php?products_id=2832 this is the one you want to buy. I got one and it is great, much better quality. I have found that a lot of magic makers stuff has a low price and you get what you pay for!

He bought it from me and did NOT buy a magic MAKERS raccoon. He got a magic MASTERS racoon. I do not stock magic MAKERS raccoons. I instructed john to send it back for replacement.
One of the following must be the case: 1. they don't make them like they used to. 2. he got a bad one. 3. both.
