Hey everyone,
I have a Color Symphony set, and I'm looking for a good gospel application for it. The effect is four black records are each individually placed into a record sleeve and change into the color of a silk that is in it's center when the record is removed. I know of one really good routine, but the problem is that it calls for a yellow record, however, mine is green. The other colors are blue, red, and the last is all 3 colors. Preferably, I would like a good solid salvation message, but any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks! JIMC64

You could show how the SIN , green silk (Envy) defiles all it touches turing the record green also. Blue could be some other type of sin?
Explaining how evil is spread, The black records representing darkness, then the RED could represent the Blood of Jesus using These scriptures as a lesson. This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'Ask the priests what the law says: 12 If a person carries consecrated meat in the fold of his garment, and that fold touches some bread or stew, some wine, oil or other food, does it become consecrated?' " The priests answered, "No." 13 Then Haggai said, "If a person defiled by contact with a dead body touches one of these things, does it become defiled?" "Yes," the priests replied, "it becomes defiled." 14 Then Haggai said, " 'So it is with this people and this nation in my sight,' declares the LORD. 'Whatever they do and whatever they offer there is defiled. The final record being all three colors could maybe demonstrate that Jesus accepts us with all our imperfections?? Not sure if this helps, maybe change it up a bit but I can see "Transformation" Be Transformed by the renewing of your mind... Maybe this will help.. |

Some color meanings I have picked up over the years. Mostly by learning a John "The Balloon Man" Holmes routine.
Black - mean, evil, sin Blue - cold, non-caring Purple - royalty, snooty, better-than-you Green - envy, jealousy, greedy Yellow - cowardly, afraid, shy Red - blood of Jesus White, purity, salvation There are other meanings, to be sure. These are the ones I am used to using. -wes holly- |

My question is, are records in keeping with 2010? I performed the effect years ago, and it was very effective, but it seems outdated to me. I have thought about doing this with CD's but they are much smaller and may not be visible enough.
Just my 2 cents. Terry

I agree with Terry, many folks have not even seen a record and especially if you're working with children. I performed this back in the late 1970's using real records...

I think it will still work today, I see more "records" are being made again, they even sell turntables at our local electronics store. They are Classic and although many younger people don't even know what a record is, it can be educational, maybe do something in the routine that includes an 8-tack, a Cassette and a record and CD
even if they still don't understand that a record plays music the effect is very colorful and will still work on the visual aspects alone. maybe include a vanishing record player and produce a CD player in its place? Just cause its old doen not make it not worth doing, How many magicians still use appearing canes? when was the last time you have seen someone walking down the street with a white tipped cane? It still plays well on stage. I say use the color symphony....IMHO |

This is a beautiful illusion and I think it can be performed today.
Remember that there is a fine tradition in antique looking props. If it were my routine I'd probably frame it with patter something like this... "Now, many of the younger people in the audience may not recognize this object, but when I was a child we called this a "Long Playing Record" or LP, and everyone young and old had a collection of their own. Some made us feel happy, others made us feel sad, but they were all an important part of our lives. The LP has since been replaced with the Compact Disc, and now pure data in the form of MP3 files, but there was a certain magic in the old vynal LPs. Their feeling in the hands and how they made us feel when we played them... let me show you what I mean.... (Music up, silent routine begins) P.S. I only have the Tenyo, which I bought and performed as a youngster many many years ago. If someone has a good condition Color Symphony that they don't perform anymore and would like to unload for a reasonable used-price, please PM me. (Note that its possible you could get more for it as a collectible. I don't know. I only know that my wife would kill me if I bought one at "collectible" prices. )

There's a similar item that was once on the market by Pavel -using large rings. I use this and get great response from it. In recent years, I have made my own set in the colors that I've wanted and it still plays great. The advantage of using large rings as apposed to the records, is that the rings don't can't be "dated"

The name of that trick was "Ring-Miracle" (Ringwunder). The diameter of the rings were 20 cm. Abbott's Magic in Colon, Michigan also sold it. It is also featured on page 100 of "The Magic Catalogue" book by William Doerflinger that was published in 1977. I am not sure, but I think FCMer Duane Laflin used to sell the color changing records... (not the current Russian Rings which he now sells)... By the way Terry, sorry I am not arriving until Wednesday at this year's FCM convention- will not see you Monday night performing. Rats.
