Here is my pointer, although it is a bit disgusting but the fake tougue is as real as one..
Go and get a pig tongue. It is about 90% the same as human tongue. But before you stick that tongue to your mouth. Wash with salt water and salt to make sure it is clean and germ free before sticking that pig tongue in your mouth. Symmatrix

The old standard is a sheep's tongue, and you can find them at most Greek butchers for about a buck!

Simon Lovell has put out a good fake tongue. I'm not sure if they are still available. I'll ask him next time I see him, which should be in a couple of days.

Animal tongues seem a bit gross. I don't think I would ever use one.

If its for needle thru tongue, do it for real!
get your tongue pierced- I have known people for over 2 years who had no idea it was pierced. Unless you stick it out or throw your head back and laugh wide mouthed its not obvious. Then just remove the stud and get a nice skewer. TOTALLY realistic (cause it is, sheesh) Also great for thread hookups, crunching bitten coins, etc. as well as 'other' stuff (this is an all ages board so I'll be quiet) |

I have gotten my tongue pierce. The best convenient solution anytime anywhere impromptu. All thanks to you guys.
Have any people thought of doing stapling your tongue on a piece of board? |

Couple of thoughts, first of all, with all the piercings about, I think a lot of folks will assume a peircing if there is no blood,no broblem, ise a needle thru arm needle to provide blood, other thing is in direct answer to the original question, not to be funny ,but did you think to check in an adult book/toy store?they have them and very realistic too,,,,

I got a very realistic tongue from the amazing jonathan awhile back but never really used it do to the fact that so many people have their tongue pierced nowadays I didn't think it would be that impressive.

We use a 50p plastic tongue as a cheap gag for the opening of our show. It looks like crap and has a big hole in it from being used before, but it has still never been spotted.
The routine always gets a laugh and a lot of squirms too. We get Martin to stick out his tongue and force someone in the audience to closely inspect it for holes, having them touch it and the like. Which goes over great. Then Martin loads the fake one and jams a skewer through it. They always seem to believe it right up until when he pulls it out, still attached to the skewer Its an old gag I know, but it still works really well. For those of you that have seen it, the bit in our promo vid with the nail through tongue. that's the fake one. Everyone I have shown that video too has thought it was real! Have fun David Straitjacket

A guy on John Bradshaw''s sideshow museum at Coney Island about 1991 would nail his tongue to a board,it was a sensation then, but I don't think it would win a dime now.You could try the old iron-tou
ngue.gaff, this is a piece of coat hanger wire bent into a goose neck, like the scoure in Dicovery of Witchcraft, with a hook bent in place of the handle. You mime shoving it through your tongue then bend down and hook the hook over the bail of abucket of water. after you take it out, spit a gob of fake blood in the bucket.

That guy in Bradshaw's show was Michael Wilson. It's true that as the years went on, the tongue nailing became less effective. He and I were working on a new iron tongue act for Coney Island just two days before he died.

Something overlooked is an oldie! Instead of a skewer, as usual and predictible, use a lamb's tongue, and with a knife or scissors, cut it off, and drop the tip on the floor. It's easy to cop the rest, and then do a restoration...

Braveneil should post this question to Simon Lovell, as he put out a GREAT fake tongue a while back.

In the book 'shock magic' by andrew mayne he gives a few suggestions. I haven't tried it myself(and honestly I'm skeptical about its appearance) but he says using a peice of pink taffy can work in a bind.

You would be surprised what people miss. Me, I think thumb tips should look obvious, yet somehow they become invisible in the right hands.
Martin now has his tounge pierced and trained for weightlifting/iron tongue routine, so I am taking over the fake tongue routine as a precursor to it, a gag which helps to introduce the real thing.
