I know there has been a lot of topics on here about production boxes. etc.
I want to know what are some of the most visual ways to produce a rabbit. For example, is there anyway to produce a rabbit from silks that are shown empty?

It's not a trick that can be bought and sold in a magic shop, but it definitely possible if you simply apply the principles found in finales to silk productions. Many silk productions end by gathering up the loose, single silks that were produced and making something larger appear from them, like a goose, a cockatoo, or... a rabbit!

Just purchase the Abbott Live stock bag. This is a device to permit a performer to produce a rabbit from a quantity of silks. Of course you have to have produced the number of silks previously. This also requires some staging of tables and props.
To produce a rabbit from a hat the Alan Shaxon method cannot be beat, it is along the lines of the Abbott Bowl of Oranges production. Again these require additional props. |

Well you see... a mommy rabbit and a daddy rabbit.... get the visual?
Sorry, I just couldn't resist. [I give this post even money of being declared obscene and removed by management.]

My favorite is with the Blammo Box. I use it for doves to bunny. There is a clipping of it at the end of my video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHEz2bqrp9Q

Paul, Eric Sharpe's method for producing a rabbit from a top hat sounds like what you are looking for. Also, Thomas Clark will make you a custom-sized bunny bag in most any color, similar to the livestock bag that Bill mentioned. Another possibility is the Flash Production Box. I used to own one of these, and it is the most visual of all rabbit production boxes. The rabbit appears from a box with an open front. If you use pyro a well-timed flash can can make the rabbit appear out of thin air!

I just bought the mini blam from Thomas Clark a few weeks ago and it is awesome. If you are still looking for something I would highly recomend it.

Paul Osborn sells plans to make a doves to Rabbit effect. Of course you need to have a bench saw to cut the wood. His plans were orginally published in Genii Magazine year ago, and is now available in book form.

The original poster specifically asked for a method to produce a rabbit without the use of a production box, such as producing a rabbit from silks. Four years later, we're still giving production box solutions that can only be bought in a magic store (for lots of bucks, I might add). It seems that only the card and coin magicians are practicing sleight of hand any more. Sleight of hand bunny productions are a thing of the past, and yet if you look in the oldest books, the methods are all still there. If bunny from silks (as my colleague Spellbinder suggested in 2010) is too much for you, try bunny from newspaper, especially good after performing a sleight of hand newspaper tear and restoration, then crumple up the restored paper and dump out the rabbit. This is especially good for today's high tech world where you can use your computer to print up your own newspaper and include on the "front page" a story and photo about a missing magician's rabbit. In the course of telling the story, the paper gets torn, then restored with the photo of the bunny still prominent on page one. Then suddenly crumple the paper up and "discover" that the bunny in the photo has become real, and point to the photo, which is now minus the rabbit. The best part (for misers who dream) is that it will only cost a fraction of the price of one of those fancy production boxes.

I started producing a rabbit from a few silks about 1948, and did it for years. John Booth wrote up his Miracle Production in "Marvels of Mystery". Marvels and "Forging Ahead in Magic" have been reprinted (a few years ago) in one volume. Booth produced a stack of water glasses. I just subbed a bunE.
If I as a 16 year old could do it, YOU can do it! --Of course, it will take "a bit" of practice.

One of my most used rabbit production is the mail box. I bought mine (MADE WITH abs PLASTIC) from Hocus Pocus 15 years ago. The supplier stop making them for whatever reason.Jay Leslie still makes them from metal.
There is a video on the You-Tube of me using it at Morrissey 51st. For the last 5 years I've used just the Top hat (Ice bucket style) to produce the bunny. Tricky Ricky |

I still make load bags for rabbit and such. Not much easier than a few silks, a hat or bowl, on a table.

This is my favorite rabbit production EVER.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sh6lIp3Fpzk Start watching at 2:35. Of course no one should ever handle an animal this way. That was a different era. The same trick can be done with MUCH more care. But, WOW... what a production!! It happens so fast that it really seems impossible. Yeah, it's a box... so what?
