I am previewing the bonus DVD now and Joe Russell has some really nice ideas, touches, etc. in addition to what Paul and I came up with. Joe fell in love with the wallet and is using it all of the time. If you use any Mullica Wallet (or similar) you may benefit from the ideas on this bonus DVD. My three favorite items on the DVD are PH License To Astonish, PH Blind Guy Signed Card, and PH Whack Your Pack. There are effects using cards, licenses, billiard balls, business cards, etc. in conjunction with the wallet.

Outside of this DVD, make sure you check out David Parr's idea with a post it note and Eugene Burger's presentation on the Chicago Tapes DVDs. I believe Burger shares Parr's idea with permission on the DVD. Also Randy Wakeman had a really nice idea on one of his DVDs where you have what looks like a credit card or bill (just the top part fixed in place) and so it appears that the credit card or bill is between the back of the wallet (inside)and where you remove the object. If you own the wallet that will hopefully make sense. It is a nice convincer.

One of the things Tommy Wonder suggested was using a brass zipper. He felt that many of the current wallets had an issue as they used a black zipper. The brass zipper on the black wallet makes it stand out more. He felt that the black zipper on black wallet disappeared or was hard to see in many environments thereby weakening the fact that the wallet was indeed zipped up. This attention to detail is what made Tommy's magic stand out. Every little detail was important to him. Tommy gave me permission when he discussed this with me a few years back to share this thought.

On the PH Whack Your Pack I might suggest an idea by Del Ray (watch for his book/performance DVD coming very soon... it should be incredible- it is in route to Murphy's I believe). In a betting sequence Del would remove a VERY old very worn $100 bill as the prize in the challenge advising he's had it for a VERY long time and never lost. When it appears you lost and then the card is subsequently produced you put the bill back in the wallet advising again that you have had the bill for a very long time. With this you could also use a Lonnie Chevrie idea of having the bill signed by every person who has played and lost the game/challenge. So it has tons of signatures on the bill. At the end you have them add their signature - it emphasizes the idea that you have done this many many times without losing. This is not on the DVD.

The DVD starts replication tomorrow so we should see this out in about 10 day to 2 weeks.

Hey Tim, I believe it was a $50.00. Regardless, it is a great idea.

If I remember correctly, David Parrs idea meant that you had to slice a huge piece out of the back of the inner wallet.
I have some work on the Mullica Wallet on my Unusual Suspect DVD that builds on Davids fine work but without the need to alter the wallet.

I think that is the case as well. I can also vouch for the Mullica stuff on the unusual suspects, which is really good. That said, I have made the opening about half an inch wide to make it easier to load. Doesn't make any difference as it never gets seen.

I've been using the Mullica Wallet ever since Jerry Mentzer started selling them. It is and has always been my regular wallet. With that said, never had a problem with the opening. I have gone through several over the years from just wear and tear but that would have been true for any wallet. It is the most versatile tool for the magician and or mentalist. So much can be done with it.

Agreed. I've been doing it for about 25 years with the inner wallet "as is". I understand why Parr altered his wallet and that has to do with the post-it note on the card. It's a clever idea.

I played around with the first pocket-sized Mullica's that came out several years ago and wasn't too impressed with it. I think I had the first version that Tony Miller created because it didn't have the slots for the credit cards. This version looks interesting and I'll certainly give it a shot. At the very least I'm interested in seeing the DVD for the ideas.

I got shown the Mullica about ten years ago and the guy who showed me had altered the inner wallet, so as an impressionable 20 year old I did the same. Kind of never got out the habit despite being on Mullica number 4. Definitely no need to do so but definitely no harm either.

Hi Tim/janet can the licience effect be done with a credit card instead?

As long as the zipper opens smoothly, the brass style is fine to me.

Paul,

Yeah, there's no right or wrong way for the gaff. It's what you're comfortable using. I know that Eugene Burger has adapted his wallet to Parr's setup even though he doesn't use Parr's routine.

Magicmike221, I guess it would work but I think it takes away the real strength of the effect... the idea is you borrow a license, supposedly instantly memorize all of the info, and start going over it but they slowly realize you are describing yourself. You then show them their license has changed to yours and their license is discovered in the inner zippered pocket.

In my comments there are other great routines and handlings and Matthew Wright does offer some great work on it in his Usual Suspect DVD in his Mental Mullica and also in his Mullica's Nightmare. (as well as some other great material- thin DVD is overlooked but has some strong material). Make sure to also check out Oz Pearlman's mental routines using the wallet in Into The Abyss DVD.

David Parr's routine and handling can also be found in his book Brain Food.

David also shows his routine, handling and wallet modification on Eugene's Gourmet Close-up Magic DVD, from the Chicago Tapes DVD set. As usual, Eugene gives a bunch of great pointers on handling, both the cards and wallet. I think anyone serious about the Mullica Wallet should have that DVD.

It should be VERY soon as the DVDs are being finished as far as replication, the replicator has the wallets in house, and they just need to package them and ship to Murphy's. We then send out to dealers worldwide. So I'd guess you will see these in the next couple of weeks latest. I am quite confident you will be happy with this and I am very proud how it all turned out with the help of Paul, Joe Russell, Alan Wong, etc. - from the fantastic production of the wallet to the great routines. If you have any questions, problems, etc. I am happy to help as both Paul and I really stand behind this.

Hello Tim,

I have one of the recent vintage "Penguin" wallets. It is fairly nice but really no place to keep your money unless partially folded in the single long pocket. I could not get a sense from the demo picture. Other than the brass zipper is this wallet going to be different? Thanks

Why is it that it`s called a HIP POCKET Mullica Wallet if the advertisement says it`s a back pocket wallet and people on here asked if it fit nicely in the back pocket? I want to carry this in my hip pocket. Will it fit comfortably?

Hi Patrick

It's called a Hip Pocket wallet as it will fit comfortably into the average hip pocket. But a lot of people carry their wallet in the back pocket so the ad made a point of mentioning that.

If you buy this from phpresents and for some reason you're not happy with the fit in you hip pocket we will be happy to give you a refund.

be well,

Hi Tim thanks for the answer (Licience V credit card) I only ask as most people I perform for over here in the UK don't usually carry their drivers licience on their person but always have a Credit card. Thanks.

You're right Peter, my mistake. I'd still like to keep it in my front pocket though, so I hope it fits well. I hate having things in my back pocket when I sit down because it makes it unleveled, uncomfortable, and bad for your back.

Surely the hip pocket is the pocket on your hip??? And the back pocket is the one on your bum?? Either way, I'm looking forward to getting this.

I've done a bit of research and I'm sure Peter knows what he's talking about as well. It sounds like it makes sense for it to be the front pockets, but even those aren't on your hips. The dictionary defines the hip pocket as the pocket being directly behind the hip.
