This disc has been discussed at length in "Penny for Your Thoughts"
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......forum=15 so I feel no need to go into too much detail. Call me a Philistine but I found one of the more attractive features of this disc to be the price. I got mine for about $20. On this disc, Luca Volpe presents a likable persona and five good routines which emphasize presentation over method. If you perform a series of effects based on the premise of suggestion/hallucination, "The Vision" should be a welcome addition. In the appropriate setting, it can also be presented as a piece of bizarre magic. "The Connection" offers a deliciously bold design duplication using ungimmicked items available from an office supply store. Despite Mr. Volpe's repeated assurances "Don't worry", I did come away with some audience management/blocking concerns. Thankfully, Paolo Cavalli AKA Lord of the Horses has authored a pamphlet of tips and ideas which is now available to purchasers of the DVD. Mr. Cavalli offers some clever subtleties/convincers, alternative presentations and a tip for "The Vision", to boot. He should be thanked for his generosity. "The Experience" is a nice, intimate routine which appears to probe your spectator's memory. I offer one minor suggestion: substitute the word "hills" for "mountains". Hills can become mountains and even sand dunes, whereas it's not as easy to go in the opposite direction (without dynamite). "The Hallucination" should make a great companion piece to "The Vision", owing to its premise. It's not my cup of tea because it involves playing cards and complex (to me) manipulations. Those comfortable with card magic, though, should have great fun with this. The performance section of "The Call" isn't really a performance. It's merely an explanation of the effect (an incomplete one at that- not sure why it was done in this manner). This is a telephone effect which should be good for self promotion. It probably won't fool any magicians but who cares? This DVD gives good bang for your buck. Verdict: Recommended |
