So... I'm a little disappointed. I recieved a "coin nest of boxes" (aluminum) by Tango Magic and silly me, it was "just" that... Just the nest of boxes themselves.
Now I was somewhat familiar with what I thought I'd get when a fellow guy from my Ring showed me a "s@@@@" that the bottoms and tops sat in while waiting to be loaded with the coin in your pocket. Without this secret apparatus, what is the point! Can someone PM me with help with what I should do, perhaps I can construct the loading gimmick out of wood if I had the plans or something. Thanks. |

You really need a holder for the top and bottom sections. Wood is very heavy, mine has a plastic holder. I am guesing that all variations have the holder, unless you have a version that uses a slide (those were the inexpensive plate or cardboard versions). But you can make something yourself, even out of cardboard or paper mache. Contact Tango first, maybe they have one that wasn't included with your set. I don't know the ones you speak of, but the brass standard ones work with the upper stack and lover stack held in an overlapping position, so you can dump in the coin and slide the top group over the bottm. So, overlap them, then see if you can make a holder that keeps them in that position. Good luck

Tango must not include the holder, because I recieve a set for Christmas as well, with no holder. I tried to use the plastic version (I think it's Royal magic). But a few of Tango's insert are too large for that holder. Making a cardboard holder seems easy enough. But would be nice to have one made from aluminum

It sure seems strange that someone would market this without the holder. Is anyone aware of a different loading method?

Derek Dingle had a couple of quirky methods that didn't use the slide. See "The Complete Works of Derek Dingle" and (I think) "Coinmagic."

Coin nest of Boxes Aluminum by Tango -
just goes to show how valuable old threads are ... I was about to buy this item, thinking it would have the same loader mechanism as a cheap plastic toy version my son has. Why not finish the quality product with a quality loader ... what was they thinking? |

I have the Viking brass box set to do a Dr. Mike Rubenstein routine, the Substitution Trunk Mystery. Great effect and a nice prop.

Thank you Mike, its one of my favorite routines. It can be found on the NYCMS dvd series as well as the first Penguin Live lecture. I love the idea of using two signed coins to enhance the routine, and the idea to have it on the table at all times. Roth also has a nice routine on the NYCMS dvd series.

Mike, If I remember correctly, on your second live lecture (or that is where I thought I saw it) you used an Okito Box (and a rubber band) instead of a nest of boxes for the effect. Was there a reason for the change? Between the two, I like the nest of boxes way better.

Yes. Effect is different. More direct with the Okito box, just a transposition disguised as a close up rendition of the stage illusion. Nest of boxes adds the mystery of coin to impossible location as a kicker to a transposition. Different response. Both are interesting.

I have a nest of boxes but have never used it. It would only work in a very noisy room. I prefer to use my JOL Plus Wallet (with ID case).

Pardon the newb question here.... I've never owned any nest of boxes set but am looking into them (The Viking set looks good)... BUT, will I need to come up with my own loading mechanism ? From the discussion it seems like that is the case.
TIA |

No. VIKING sells the loader with the set, as most should.

IS the Spellbinding set of good quality ? I've confirmed they come with the holder. So it's that or the Viking set.... about a $20 difference so not sure.

The nest of boxes is a GREAT effect, no matter what routine you do. Tou can also get it a a nest of boxes or cheap metal plates. Similar effect is nest of purses, but I like the nest of boxes better. It's a miraculous coin to impossible location, and there are ways to do it for all levels of ability. I think the Viking product has been considered the best quality, but there are certainly others that work just as well.

Thanks Michael ! I'll go with the Viking set.
Had a chance to look at yours and Roth's Nest Of Boxes routines. Think I'm going to combine pieces of both (each one great on it's own). |
