Good evening and Happy New Year,

I just finished my last show of the Year about 90 minutes ago and was reflecting on Magic I purchased in 2010 or incorporated in 2010 - Now I do all sorts of shows but here specifically is my top 3 for Children's Shows:

1. I bought the Wacky Wash Machine from Practical Magic - I cannot say enough about this effect/prop - From the moment I received it I fell in love with it and have used it constantly for the 7 & younger set.

2. The Sheep Dog Puppet from Practical Magic marketed by David Ginn - I actually bought this in 2009 but didn't really put it into the act until this year. AGain, I cannot say enough about what a great prop this is and what a great routine it makes for the younger crowd. You cannot go wrong with this one.

3. Lastly, one of my newer investments of the year is the Improved Pizza Oven from Smokey Mountain Magic - I had been doing the regular Pizza Oven a lot, but I saw this, got it, and immediately incorporated it into many of my shows including my School Shows.

Now that I named my top 3, I was wondering if anybody else would care to share the top effects they either purchased this year or just incorporated into their acts this year.

Thank you and again, Happy New Year.

Mike

Thanks for all the comments coming in -

I am sure my first Kidabra Convention this August will be a valuable learning experience and I am hoping I will also be able to attend the FCM a month earlier in Indiana - Given that I also do a lot of Gospel Magic, I always come away from there with lots of info and learning as well.

Hey Mike, based on some of the Café postings, I think you bought some pretty nice effects over the last year or so as well.

Hey Mike,
I agree with you, The Mother of all Diamonds is always a big hit no matter what story I tell with it, The new Pizza Oven from Smokey Mountain Magic just retired my Die Box and the Dog puppet keeps them guessing whether he is real or not...Hippity Hop Rabbits has always gotten rave reviews and lots of applause.

Thanks, I agree.

This year, rather than magic, concentrating more upon publicity, costuming, music, etc. - all items to keep upgrade my shows and continue to make it even more professional.

THe best item in my KIds' show is Sammy Smith'a Tailspin. However, I use my own much improved version of this trick that I am trying to sell to Sammy. I have a detailed writeup of my version. Anyone who is interested can PM me.

The chair suspension is a good investment cuz parents are willing to pay $25 extra for it. So it can pay itself off. Also it leaves a great impression will increases chances of further bookings

#1 - CHICO the Monkey by Bill Abbott - Always a killer at shows for kids or adults.
#2 - Vanishing Bandana
#3 - Any puppet routine with an Axtell puppet. Axtell makes incredible puppets that kids love. I have the gorilla and the smoke breathing dragon. The dragon was $500 US, but has paid for itself. I've been debating adding the Platypus - hilarious and catchy tune comes with it. I've just played the Youtube video in my grade 4 class and I hear the students walking around singing the tune.

The two routines that absolutely killed at last night's show were:

1. Vanishing Bandana
2. Kandu Comedy Carton

I was at a church family dinner...about 25 kids and 125 adults. I did about 20 minutes...and even our 81-year old Priest was laughing. All of the adults roared at the Bandana routine...and the one kid I called up for the Comedy Carton darn near pee'd her pants she was laughing so hard.

Thanks for all the input - it's great that this thread keeps going on.

One that I now do almost all the time is the Smile Maker by Barry Mitchell - Got this either late 2011 or early2012, can't remember, but great routine for anti-bullying, gospel, etc.

Nice to see that Wacky Washing Machine is taking off in USA. Presently, I can hardly keep up with orders (Bless you).

For those who asked, the image shows a précis of events. Obviously it has many advantages over the old Chinese Wishy Washing Machine.

Hocus Pocus has sole distribution rights in the States; and his web site gives more details and a video of the Wacky Washing Machine.
