I take great pride in having a creative mind and I create many of my own stories and routines for standard magic effects. However, I also recognize there are plenty of creative minds out there and I do not always have to reinvent the wheel. So with all that being said, when you buy products, and I don't mean just a DVD or a Book, but an actual magic trick, who tends to be your favorite creator that you purhase from.
In my case, 2 names stand out:
Barry Mitchell and then Duane Laflin - Now I always, even with their effects, add some of me to the routine, but I have purchased numerous products from both. Tim Sonefelt is now also becoming somebody I purchase from as well.
What about the rest of you?
The magic is not in our sleights and illusions, but instead in our ability to bring love and joy.

Tommy, I too enjoyed your Reading DVD immensely and just recently ordered your Measel Wand from you. Looking forward to seeing what else you have coming out.
I have had no luck in finding a good Picture Frame yet to make the Spider Effect in your DVD but I'll keep looking.

Revmike a friend and I made the picture frame/web trick that Tommy teaches in the video on a scale of 1-10 it was a level 3 on the woodworking difficulty and the rest was fairly light weight crafting. The response to the trick is very good and has good room for inserting your own personality.

Gary, I see you've used the spider already. It went over well in the performance for you?

I used it twice once with my new library show that your DVD was instrumental in writing. The I did a Birthday Yesterday with a Spider-man theme I used a second message on the web that says "Greetings" a message that Spider-man sent to the party child. I think the effort will be worthwhile to make various generic messages for events.

Tommy in Answer to your question, yes I am very pleased with the efforts that went into making the Charlotte's Web Window, The large Spelling Bee and even the Velveteen rabbit gimmick. All three of those routines can easily be switched to generic children's events.
The Rabbit Routine becomes the story of the birthday child experiencing the love of their family and friends in order to become "real"
The window and web trick needs only a replacement web to change its message to become appropriate for some events
And of course the same for the Spelling bee
If your looking for really nice ideas for your children's shows I highly recommend both of Tommy's DVD's.

LOts of good names. Part of what I think also makes a great magical creator is their customer service. Most of the ones I like are also people you can call up and talk to anytime about ideas, problems, etc. I would like to add one more name to my list as I use many of his products and that is Joe Eddy Fairchild.
Thank you all for your input.

Another one I'd like to add to the mix is Tommy James. He is newer to my list but has marketed quite a few of products in the last 2 years that merit serious consideration of the family performer.

Thanks for your consideration Mike.
BTW I have FOUR effects coming out real soon:
My Birthday DVD "Birthday Party Mania" will debut TODAY (If Hurricane Sandy hasn't put UPS behind in its shipment.)
Library Rabbit Production: A great rabbit production for the school/library performer and the entire unit fold flat for traveling, even the load chamber. I was able to capture a video of me using the prop in a school show in Maine yesterday afternoon. This could also be released today or tomorrow. Check out my web site for details.
Vanishing Rabbit: Release in a few days. Works like the Stop Lite trick. Show three cards 8" by 10" each. A Wizard Hat, a wizards wand and a rabbit. Place them into a bamboo folder (supplied). Remove the hat and show it on both sides. Remove the wand, show it on both sides. Ask the children what is left in the folder, they will say RABBIT. Open the folder to prove the rabbit is gone, but, the kids see a card sticking out of the side of the folder. Remove the card and in big bold black letters, it says GONE. Kids ask to see the other side, so you show the other side of the folder, but they demand to see the other side of the card. You state there is nothing on the other side. After some anticipation you turn the card around and it says NOTHING, in big bold letters, proving there is nothing on the other side! VERY fun to perform but I haven't gotten a video of it yet.
My third in the "Flash Appearing Banner" series. . . Flash Appearing Merry Christmas Banner. Releasing in mid-November.
Please note: EVERYTHING I produce I use in my own performances

The 2 guys I like to deal with are known as "kids" magic creators but are amazing inventors and a lot of their stuff can be adapted for kids.
Bizzaro and Chris Smith (MagicSmith), both out of Vegas.

I have been dealing with Barry Mitchell for the past year and he's not only super creative, but a great generous guy. Every prop I've bought that he makes himself is top quality and stuff you wouldn't dream of getting rid of. He's a pleasure to deal with and shares his ideas unselfishly.
Yes, there are many other creative minds I admire out there, but Barry Mitchell is tops in his field.
