Available from:

www.dixonmagic.com for $40.00 plus shipping.

What do you get?

You get a hard bound little diary that with a single page for each playing card.

You get a necessary (to some) gaffus.

You also get a DVD with Doc teaching you how to do the trick. He's clear in his explanations. I'm not a fan of DVD instruction. I think a few pages would've sufficed for me. The DVD explained the snot out of how to do the trick. It's all good.

Printed on the back of the book are five questions.

A spectator selects a card, they answer the five questions and when they open the book to the page with their selection . . .

It has their answers on it.

The trick is:

Very strong. It amazed my wife, who is pretty darned knowledgeable about card magic. (One cannot force cards on her ever! btw.)

Pretty darned easy to do. Doc has several different handlings. I dreamed up one of my own pretty quickly. The amount of sleight-of-hand required is minimal.

Go to his website if you want to know more.

The five questions are the grist that would allow a real magician to wittily interact with his audience and create a truly special magical experience.

I won't use it like that, but I'm just sayin.

I don't know Doc Dixon personally. We've never met. I suspect he is one heck of a fine magician though.

This has my highest recommendation. I think it's great and will be showing my sicko version to the boys in SF.

I just recently received this and it's a real worker. It's completely easy to do, no memorization work, absoltely amazing, and there are two special pages: one for a birthday and one for an anniversary. This trick is extremely strong.

Well, mine arrived in England this morning. This is a really commercial routine that's extremely practical for close-up or stage. It also offers great opportunities for interaction with the audience and I love the fact that it's open to a lot of personalisation, from the choice of the final "big question" to the wide variety of techniques that can be used for the card. Two main methods are covered on the DVD - one with a simple move and one with no moves at all - but there are many other possibilities that immediately suggest themselves. I'd say this is definitely a performer's trick.

Diary of Decision would be ideal for walkaround. The prop is as examinable as you could possibly get, so it's totally safe to leave with them before, during or after the effect. In fact, it's probably the only diary type routine I've ever seen where the spectator could literally take the book home and study it without any danger of them finding a clue as to the method. The repeatability is also excellent, which is a real plus for strolling where people may see you perform the routine more than once. They have a free choice of answers to the questions and it can be a different card every time.

I see this is an effect that will become a regular part of my professional repertoire. I can’t give a better recommendation than that.

Just to make this clear (I just received my diary today): All the cards after the 32nd card are just there to fill the book unless you plan on memorizing the pages and using a certain page because it is more specific somehow to their answers, right?

I'll pm you a response as that's a better forum in which to discuss methods.

Respectfully,

Doc

Just want to clarify one thing, many of the cards, though they won't end up being selected by the spectator, serve the purpose of making the method far more difficult for the smart/analytic types to unravel. They add a bit of a smokescreen, making the possible outcomes seem much, much more numerous than the very manageable number they actually are. This is discussed on the dvd.

Best,

Doc

I have just received mine and this is a great effect. The method is clever and all of the subtleties make it both powerful and easy to do. This will be going straight into my close-up/parlour acts. I really like the fact you can leave the diary to be examined afterwards with no possibility of method deconstruction.

Check out Cris Johnson's review here:
http://crisjohnsontricktalk.blogspot.com/2011/01/bill-abbotts-ass-review-diary-of.html

It's under the headline: Bill Abbott's A-s-s & REVIEW: Diary of Decision by Doc Dixon

I could explain the headline, but the Diary and Bill Abbott would appreciate the attention.

I'm talking with my buddy a few weeks ago (Doc Dixon), and he tells me about this mentalism/card trick/book type effect, and not being much into that genre, it sort of goes in one ear and out the other. I find "story" type tricks pretty boring for the most part, don't do a lot of card work, and mentalism (or maybe it's just many of the practitioners of it) gives me the creeps.

Having the Diary of Decision laying on my desk, the book prop itself looked kind of intriguing unlike most magic stuff out there. So I said "what the heck, I'll learn what it's about." 20 minutes later I'm like... whoa.. THIS is a bit different. It's NOT a pick a card trick, it's NOT traditional "read your mind mentalism", it's stupid easy to do, and after showing it to my wife (the worlds most jaded audience member) she's complimenting it without a clue as to how it works. Over the last week I show a few more friends and they all say basically the same thing... that it is really cool and VERY different.

I guess the way I interpret what is going on is that the spectator becomes part (or the center) of all these seemingly random questions/scenarios - it's more that just a prediction when it comes to the audiences reaction.

It's equally playable in close up as it is on a stage, and due the nature of the effect, I think can really cross "magic genres" i.e. a mentalist is going to find this to be great for his act - AND so will a traditional stand up magic guy. I'm probably going to be using it for stage work with an easel and jumbo paper so the answers to the questions are more visible and it players bigger as a whole.

All in all... A+

This is a really great item. Many effects are described as being easy, allowing you to concentrate on the presentation. Doc has designed this so that you really can concentrate on the presentation and the interaction with your audience. The effort to effect ratio is huge! In the current market of 'put out anything that looks good on screen', Doc has put out something truly commercial that audience will connect with and remember.

As has been said before, it's perfect for walkaround or stage work and not many routines fit that criteria.

Great job Doc!

This is good and different to other diary tricks and it has a very strong emotional hook. Lay people will find the questions interesting and thought provoking and also a little bit spooky ( Ghosts & telepathy). If the ansewers are written on your business card, it's a perfect give away and the participant will relive the effect every time they look at your card and they will tell others about the experience. It's easy to do. When maths was mentioned I thought "oh no" as that ain't my strong point. However it is so easy to do and I have thought of a little hint that makes it even easier as you jot each ansewer down.

Good points are 1/ Nice classy looking diary 2/Easy to do 3/ One second reset 4/ Can be done close up or Cabaret

Recommended if you want to put something into your act which people will think wow how did he know that.
