I'm not very impressed with this DVD.
I've watched it, and I will do a very short reviews and add a negative comment I already had blank night, which is a great effect, but since I already had it in pdf this effect was trivial. De-ja-tu: A quick couple read each other's mind effect (with cards), it's pretty easy, and he does give a nice way to do a switch Burnt and restored note with serial prediction: magic effect which is fine but not for me SoundBox: I loved this effect, and when I got the explanation I was ******, this is not an effect it's just a presentation for a marketed effect called superlock. Although they didn't mention this on the site of Alakazam!!! With Streetwise, they said in description gimmick not included, but they didn't do it with this one. I'm really really ****** about this one. Comedy killer: Kolossal Killer for those who don't have a wallet. Stick with it: A nice routine I might use it. Streetwise: John Archer's Streetwise, a gimmicked book test and gimmick is not supplied. The close up section isn't bad, it's not fantastic either. |

This is a hard review to write because Further Education is great set, BUT IMO, not as strong as 'Educating Archer' or 'Blindfold Tips'. The problem, if it can be called one, is Archer set the bar really high on his first two releases, making every routine a unique and polished performance. In Further Education, I feel there are a few routines which fell flat and didn't have that John Archer flair (i.e. Streetwise or Starstruck). It's weird watching John doing a serious mind reading effect instead of something fun with a cool angle.
That being said, Archer still gives you 2 routines - Blank Night & Sound Box - on his third release that are WORLD CLASS ! These two routines are foolers and their entertainment value is impossibly high. 'Blank Night' is a Bank Night effect that adds a further layer of deception, allowing you pull out crisp unfolded bills, and Soundbox is a Seven Keys to Baldpate routine that offers Maximum Entertainment I agree with cougar261084 in regards to not advertising the rather expensive gimmick required to perform Soundbox, but I'm glad he included the effect anyhow, and I'll be ordering the props and work shopping this one asap, it's that good. Also, if you don't own 'Educating Archer', Comedy Killer is another fantastic routine that can be added directly to your repertoire. So that's my take on this set, I got two great routines and the pleasure to watch John's hilarious interactive comedy, well worth the price of admission in my books. Jonathan |

I'll be receiving this in the mail soon, and I have to say, your negative review still makes me look forward to its arrival. Since I don't have Blank Night in PDF form, it may well end up being worth the price of the DVDs to me. And Soundbox is something I'm interested in. Not for the method, but for the presentation. Some of the other effects sound great too. Can't wait.

In my mind, Blank Night alone is worth the investment...
John's style is unique and very entertaining...you got to like his style of performing, though... I buy DVD's not mainly because I want to see new effects, but "new" or unique presentations and ideas. That justifies for me the fact, that John is using 2 marketed "gimmicks" that don't come with the DVD. Like this set very much...

I also have a copy of this on it's way as I've been meaning to grab something of John's for a while. I too am more interested in watching John's presentation, as after watching 'Fool Us' I found him highly entertaining.
These days if I find one effect or routine on a DVD that I find useful I'm usually happy with my purchase. |

I'm getting it if only for his presentation of Blank Night. that's worth the cost for me. It was beautifully presented on P&T.
But is Comedy Killer the same one as on Educating Archer? John did put out some great stuff on Educating Archer which, I suppose, could lead one to think that this cant be as good. However, for me, its like buying a Pink Floyd album - I don't care whats on it - I'm getting it because of the reputation. John, I'm already looking forward to Higher Education.... |

Amazing that some people aren't enjoying this.
Prior to John's appearance on the P&T show his Blank Night presentation had never been taught. The manuscript only gave you the method but didn't give the presentation, so even if you had purchased Blank Night previously, like I had, you still got a little extra with this. Sound Box is a brilliant routine that does NOT require the same gaffs Archer uses. It's just a 7 Keys routine and any method could be used. C'mon guys, use your imagination a little! For the past several years I've been using an ungaffed version that cost me less than $25 at the hardware store. John has brought a very clever presentation that gives some meaning and entertainment value to an effect that can come off as dull. Go out and buy a box - ANY box, put a hasp on it and you're ready to roll. This has always been the problem with DVDs, that people watch them and think they have to perform everything verbatim. There are other really great routines here. If you feel that some of the routines fell flat, so what? That isn't you performing, that's not your audience. If you like the effect, but don't want to do it because you think it fell flat for John, then use your creativity and use the DVD as inspiration for a new presentation that works for you. |

Blank Night is worth the price of the set. But I honestly didn't like anything else on there.
His presentation of Kolossal Killer was on the first DVD (with a wallet, this time it's an envelope), the booktest you have to own the gimmicked books for (this was advertised), the Seven Keys to Baldpate effect you need to buy (this was not advertised). Also there's a two-person mind reading bit that to me was a little confusing, a somewhat convoluted Add A No with a phone number reveal, and a few other items. By his own admission John wasn't comfortable on stage and didn't do some things as smooth as he should have done. I feel for the guy though, his first set was SOOO strong, it was stuff he had obviously been doing live for years and years. This time he did a whole live act of this newer material that he clearly hasn't been doing for so long. It's bound to come up a little short. |

Please don't reveal method (i know you wouldnt). But I am looking at Blank night. I am considering buying it directy from John - it says on his web site that it has all the needed bits and is no just a PDF.
So here is the question: Is it worth buying Blank night direct from him if you have the DVD? or in other words - how easy is it to make yourself? thanks guys. |

Hi
Not sure where on my website you have seen that it says you get anything other than a PDF? Anyhow I would suggest that you get the DVD.... I make no money that way (Curses Alakazam ;-) but you get the PDF included plus the presentation and another load of tricks and ideas. Best wishes, John |

I am having a heck of a time finding the right kind of envelopes here in the States.
Any suggestions or links for me? |

Thanks so much for the quick response.
The picture doesn't look quite right. (I don't want to say anything else that might give something away.) I placed an order and I'll see what they are like when they come in. Thanks again! |

These Metallic ones are actually more accurate. But they are Metallic. I have some on order to see how they actually look in person.

I emailed John and he was kind enough to send me the UK link for the envelopes he uses. Because of cost and timely shipping, I elected to go with the Action Envelope source. After watching John's terrific presentation, I sincerely believe that the difference is moot (watch it again and you'll agree). Think about it… how much access does the audience have to the brief production of the actual bills, and what, exactly is their focus? I haven't added this to my act yet, but I will and have no compunction about the difference in envelopes. Just prepare exactly as John explains in his PDF. This is a brilliant concept for the ol' BN effect. |
