Recently became interested in and purchased Imagine by G & SM Productionz. Any chance of hearing from anyone who performs this on a regular basis, expecially restaurant workers. G teaches a number of switches on the DVD and was wondering what switch you guys use. Here is a link:

I've had this for a while now, but haven't done much with it. Probably performed this a couple of dozen times and my presentation and handling is a work in progress. However, when I have performed this, I use a simple shuttle pass, which works just fine. Even though I'm still working on my presentation and handling, I've gotten a pretty good response. Gotten a couple of WTF comments.

I've rewatched the DVD again. I forgot that G taught 4 different switches. The Basic Switch/Crossing Gaze, Retention Switch, Folding Switch/Andrew Gerard and the Uncap Switch/Will Tsai. Now that I think about it, I've used both the Basic Switch and the Retention Switch. This has have gotten me all worked up over Imagine again. I would also like to hear what others have to say or hear other's experiences with this.

Kinda looks like we are the only ones interested in Imagine.

It usually depends on the performing venues and how the audience are distributed. I find the basic switch with crossing gaze to be very effective. I also like the Uncap switch. It is all about being casual handling the card and/or objects (pen).

This is one of the better ideas I've see in a while. I would agree it depends on the situation.

Has anyone ever had the spectator separate their hands prematurely?

Probably one of the poorer DVD's I have seen in a while. I got tired of watching it before the trick started. It was full of fill. The trick is good but will not go into my workers set.

I perform this regularly, in a sports bar located inside a casino, and have often recieve a "WTF?!?" reaction. Just make sure the routine fits your performing style. I kind of like the fact that magicians may not see the impact this effect can have so fewer people are out there doing it. Just my two cents, and probably worth about that much!

This is a killer effect! Easy to do and packs a punch! The shuttle pass shown on the DVD
is worth the effort to learn and perfect.

I have had this for a while, and I feel G's take on an old idea is great, this is very easy to do and I am not very good with sleights either, lay folk love it, it's in my line up for sure.

I think the effect is good, but I don't like how the spectator is really not just "thinking of a card". I would have to come up with a better way to come by the card. Make it look more like it was just in their mind.

Hmm, I agree that the effect is intriguing, but I seem to recall having seen something quite similar before. It mustn't be the same one because the one I have in mind I'm sure it didn't have that kind of pass. In any case it is not really my cup of tea.

I also really like this trick. I've got the required bits-and-bobs in my wallet all the time.
I use the retention switch without any problems. Rob |

Hi Scott,
Not really sure what you mean when you say the spectator is not just 'thinking of a card'... The card is forced (in anyway that suits you) so as far as the spectator is concerned it is 'a totally free choice of card' - hence the punch when the reveal is done! Also, I have done this with the prepared card loaded into a Sharpie pen which is ready in my left hand pocket. So... go for the Sharpie in the first (right hand) pocket - it aint there. Switch the original folded card to the other hand and go for the Sharpie in the left hand pocket, ditch the original folded card and pull out the Sharpie and the prepared card together and ask the spectator to sign it... This way no real switches are required. It is a very simple method of executing the switch and todate no spectator has remotely noticed it. Just an idea if like me you are not very good or confident with doing sleights or switches in full view. TGR

I'll be getting it; but I don't think of the effect as described as in the same category as the purely thought of card as eg the Princess Card & variations or 'out of sight, out of mind'. Perhaps one of us could alter this "Imagine" trick a bit? |
