I just got finished ordering a dollar sized Okito Box. I know most people use half dollar sized ones. To me bigger is better. I like how larger items are more visual for others to see. I was wondering if a dollar sized Okito Box more difficult to manipulate than a half dollar sized one?

Love dollar size okito box and boston box. No problem for me working with the big coins-been doing it for years. Also work with poker chips sometimes. You should be fine.

I use a dollar size okito box for a coins to box rather than a coins to glass (less chance of glass breaking with heavy coins .) also do a few of Roth's routines using dollar size .

I use a Dollar size box for a few routines. The box feels a bit too bulky for certain sleights in my hands. I do have a few routines that require minimum sleight that work great with the larger box. I'm hoping to release a booklet of routines on my box work in the near future. If anyones interested.
inhumaninferno Where can I find a dollar sized Boston Box? I've been searching with no luck. Nice chopper! did you build that? Joe

I have a couple of dollar boxes by Zee.
Four or five years ago, (in The Linking Ring) there is a Nearly Normal look at coin boxes... a routine using a half dollar and a dollar box. After placing the coins in their respective places (dollar coins in dollar box...boing boing...sound effect... The half dollar coins are found when the dollar box is opened, and you guessed it, the dollar coins are dumped out of the smaller box.

Rannie Raymundo, here on the Café uses dollar-sized boxes, and does some amazing stuff with them. You should send him a PM.
Corbett Posted: Mar 17, 2011 10:44am Also, get the Jim Z boxes. They are the best. |

I use a Jim Zee dollar sized box, and it handles well and looks great. As you say, the larger everything helps with visibility and that's vital.
The only thing to be concerned with is your angles on the turnover moves. Larger box = more chance of flashing, especially to the front. But hey, who uses those moves anymore, anyway?

I recently procured an O'Pongo Box from Rubiales in Spain. His dollar sized box has some very unique features that make this box special.

Sorry if I appear monomaniac but coin boxes don't exist in real life and I'd like to keep advocating for pill boxes with a rotating hinge which allows using the same principle as an Okito or a Boston Box when it seems impossible. Who can say that he often ran across boxes with a non attached lid and no locking device?
Skillful craftsmen, instead of disparaging each other, would be well advised to consider making such pill boxes. I had one made and presented it at the FFFF in 2003 and it proved to be very intriguing to all the coin men interested in the Okito boxes (including John Carney). The moves to operate such a box with rotating hinge and magnetic lock come as very natural and are totally deceiving. Then the question of $ size becomes secondary for a pill box, owing to its size, is a close up tool in any event. Methink

Lawrence, how do you think it would sound describing the item as a "container." That is what word I plan to use.

A R** S**** would be much easier with dollar size.
I just call it a pill box. "Like they used 100 years ago." People understand that, and it goes with the old coins.

Would love to see that Lawrence O.
The O'Pongo box photo wouldn't load here. O'Pongo sounds Irish. They might be taking St. Patrick's Day off.
