Hi Paul, this is what comes to mind, it is not a close-up trick in the true sense of the understanding. The ring cannot be examined. It looks fantastic, and for that I would pop the cash for it in a minute. Why, because if you are doing parlour or stage work, it would be fantastic magic to present. If you already do some Ring and Rope stuff, this would put it on another level altogether. If you like doing real looking magic, and not all magicians do with restrictions, then this looks like a good item. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

I think to magicians this will seem pretty clear what is going on. However, I showed it to my wife who is hard to fool and she said she didn't know how it was done. So I think for lay audiences this could be a winner as it is very visual.

Does this come with a metal ring or a plastic ring? The copy does not say, but it looks like plastic.

Good question. I will contact them at SEO and see if I get a response back on this question. If it is plastic, $75 seems a bit steep.
Posted: May 15, 2011 6:33pm Quick reply back from SEO. The ring is plastic. Comes with 2 rings (one is gimmicked, the other one is ungimmicked one that you may be able to switch out.

Harry,
It may be a bit I am broke right now. LOL Also, I am on the fence about it because the ring is plastic instead of metal. I do like that it comes with two though.

I wonder how your wife will feel when she sees it in "real life." I am concerned that the gimmick will be visible in real life. I am looking forward to a hands-on review.

Good point Starrpower. Hard to say if the gimmick is visible when seeing it in person instead of on camera.

I can't imagine doing this on anything other than a stage, seems like the angles would kill you. Regardless, it would be a killer on a small parlor stage.

If Joe Porper gets ahold of it he'll make it out of metal and the gaff will be invisible. Hollow mwtal for lightness and in Joes' style it will be able to be done close up.
I can dream can't I? -Ron |

I ordered this on Saturday evening, and it came in today's mail (Monday). Shipped from California to Indiana. Unbelievably quick service! Yes, the $75 is a bit pricey, but from looking at it briefly, it appears that this could be performed fairly up close. It looks pretty deceptive. Haven't had much time at all yet to really get into it, however.

This is a beautiful effect.
I do an ungimmicked ring and string (rope) with a brass ring. It is my opening effect and with audience examination and participation it is a real worker for me. As some of you know, the moves - particularly given the audience members proximity and examination - are extremely strong and visual. However, nothing can match the absolute visual purity of some of these moves. I wish this could be done with a metal ring and be able to switch it out. I might have to settle for using the ungimmicked plastic ring and switching it out for the gimmicked one. Two Questions: Could some (or all) of the moves be done with a small (1/8 or 3/16 diameter) "rope" or does it really need the properties of a ribbon - and for every effect? What is the look of the plastic ring? Is it white? Silver? Grey? |

John,
I am pretty certain this has to be done with a flat ribbon. As to the look of the ring, maybe Doug Follett can comment.

I am certainly no expert on this, I did toy around with it for a bit last evening. It is white, it is deceptive, I'm not sure yet on the angles, but from straight ahead, it does look just like the video. Perhaps with some practice, the moves could be done with a "rope", but using the ribbon is a better, and easier way to go with this particular ring.
I will say I was using it while watching TV, and with not a lot of light, but even using it in my own hands looked very deceptive to me. Again, I'm not an expert, but am telling it as I am learning it. There were also several times when I could not instantly tell which ring was the gimmicked one when I went to pick them up. Obviously, the more you work with them, it becomes very clear. Doug |

The demo has not fooled or impressed me. I do not understand the hype or the interest.

It is something Fred Kaps would do, for sure. His lecture here in the states was full of this kind of penetration direct methods. His idea was if they think it and expect it, why not use it.

That is why it caught my eye, not because it fooled me, but because I can imagine it fooling a lay audience and that is who pays me to perform.

I realize a lay audience would be mesmerized. I just didn't understand the interest from the magicians anymore than to state it was a good idea. I learn as much from seeing the reaction to things like this as I do from watching the effect. But $75? I have sticker shock.
