That's Personal COLLECTION, but that's been out of print for many years.

Numero Uno is the ONLY item that's not explained/taught on the DVD. It was a mistake - I've explained it all in another thread.

Harry, I know Numero Uno isn't explained and the book it was explained in is out of print. Would there be any chance or some way to get a hold of the explanation without tracking the book down from someone who is willing to sell it? I'm sure overtime as I get more experience, I'd be able to figure it out on my own, but a "short cut" would be nice.

Metaljohn - in order for the card to show up at the 18th position, which position in the deck do you think you need to control it to? Once you've done that, what is the most straightforward way to proceed when the person says 15? 16? 17? 18? 19? Answer those questions and you are there (assuming you actually want to do this trick).

Metaljohn: Numero Uno is thoroughly explained in LORAYNE: THE CLASSIC COLLECTION, Volume 3 - which is, and has been, available NOW. Contact me at my personal email address - first one listed under this post, and I'll give you all the information. Or, go to my magic website (all this information, by the way, is at the YouTube site we're talking about here - you guys have to pay a bit more attention!), click on "Magic Books" and you'll all my books that are available NOW. Then go to my personal email address with any questions or TO ORDER. I'll hold a copy of TCC, 3 (with the Numero Uno explanation, plus the re-write of a few other books of mine). Best - Harry L.

There isn't really anything to explain.

Oh I misunderstood when you said Personal Collection, I thought you were referring to the trick being in there. My bad, I stand corrected.
I definitely want to get TCC 2 and 3, but not right now. In a few months I will for sure. I don't like being overwhelmed with too many books/DVDs at the same time.

Here's the "history," metaljohn: Numero Uno originally appeared in my Lecture Notes, copyright 1980. Then I included it in Personal Collection (2001), which is long out of print. I performed it on my DVD set, but by mistake, the explanation was never done. So, because of that - I re-wrote the entire thing in The Classic Collection, Vol. 3 along with Quantum Leaps, Trend Setters, Dingle's Deceptions, The Great Divide.
I don't understand, yeti - if there isn't anything to explain why did so many plead for me to put that "non-explanation" into TCC, 3?

Because they are people who are unable to watch a simple trick like that and work out how it is done?

I assume you mean you know how it's done, yeti, and you think it's too "simple" a trick. Right? Anyway, if that's the case, may I give you a piece of advice? Even though I realize you've been in magic for a loooong time and don't really need my advice. But, just in case -- simple piece of advice, just a suggestion - DON'T EVER PERFORM THAT TRICK! (You must know thousands of others to perform, I'm sure.)

Oh, and I also assume you mean that some top knowledgeable magicians from all over the world, who have asked me for many years to publish the explanation of that trick, are the "...people who are unable to watch a simple trick like that and work out how it is done"? Is that true? Just curious.

Yeti, I think it's all relative to experience. Someone I know did a trick for me that was a lot like HL's Strange Voyage (before I got the Best Ever DVDs). I knew how it was done based on my experience in card magic. I only have about two years experience of serious studying/practicing. Maybe if I had more experience, I'd know a few more basic principles and would be able to figure it out.

Earthly Powers is now on that YouTube site. I'm not thrilled with some of the camera angles. I work to the audience, not the cameras, and therein lies the problem. That's true with a number of the effects, but I'm sure you all realize that - what you may, or may not, see on camera - my live audience never sees.
(Doesn't matter - we all know that yeti [or whatever name he's using now or previously] - knows how it's done. From his posts, I have to assume that he just KNOWS IT ALL.)

Yeti,
Did you ever entertain the thought that SOME magicians would rather purchase a book/effect/DVD because said article is worth it to them. I have all of Mr. Lorayne's original works except Afterthoughts and Personal Collection. Money is VERY tight right now so I cannot afford the CC volumes. That being said, I will not watch the DVD 100 times to reverse engineer Numero Uno - to me it lessens its value. Furthermore - although why I say this to a non-Lorayne fan is an exercise in futility - with EVERY effect that Harry Lorayne teaches, he ALWAYS provides additional touches and further ideas. I have been in the art a decent number of years but I do not watch magic to reverse engineer. While there is nothing inherently wrong with it, I choose to watch magic to be entertained and I LOVE to be fooled. And you know what amigo? Numero Uno fooled the hell out of me and I am not ashamed to say it. When I want the secret, I will buy the book - hopefully soon.
Ahimsa,
Vlad

Okay; six more routines, from vol. 3 of my DVD set, have been uploaded to the site. They include The Card Sharp & The Four Gamblers and my Amb. Cd. Routine, which some had requested. Enjoy! (I hope.)

Harry, I have a way off-topic question I've been curious about for some time.
In every video I have seen you perform in, I have noticed the ring you wear on your right little finger. I'm kind of a ring aficionado. How long have you had it? What is the stone?
My ex-cat is named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

Chessmann: My wife bought that ring for me probably about 50 years ago! It's a sapphire. Supposed to see a star in the stone, but I get to see it about twice a year! Interesting - "pinky" rings are not "de riguer" nowadays. If you have any of my The Classic Collection books you'll notice that the ring is not in any of the photos. I forget to remove it every once in a while, but I do usually remove it when I'm posing for the pictures. H.

I always wondered how do you handle the shuffle after letting the spectators separate the colors. I like how you handle it, great to see the creator doing a trick he's associate with for decades.
Thanks for sharing the clips, love them.
Incidentally, a version of Earthly Powers appeared in the Linking Ring not long time ago, called Earthly Sandwiches by John Neely. Here's the performance:

Yes, John sent that routine to me back then. I prefer the original - more direct - but John's is excellent. H.

A bunch of stuff from Volume 4, the last volume, of my "Best Ever" DVD set is now at the cite. There are a couple of non-card things there that you might enjoy also. These clips from very old videos, so the speed is fast (I know I speak quickly, but it's a bit faster than I actually speak) - you'll still enjoy them, I think (I hope). HL.

A few interesting comments about some of my items on that YouTube site. One person asked me what kind of gaffed cards I was using for my Invisible Pass Routine! I'm sure he won't believe me when I tell him - NONE. I use only regular decks. That goes for ALL the card items on that site. HL. (PS: Please let me repeat - the things that the cameras see that I'd rather were not seen are NOT seen by my live audiences.)

Lazy Man's Card Trick is a stunner to the audience. It's impossible to them and yet it happens. Amazing magic. Mt Lorayne explains his work in great detail and gives additional thoughts about handling that make his products worth much more than they cost.

I posted already on the first page, but I have gotten so much bang for the buck out of this DVD set since that time that if anyone who hasn't purchased this yet and is wondering if they should, I give a resounding yes. I use so much of the material here it's crazy.
