Anyone have any recommendations for good 12 inch rings. I can't afford the Owens. They start at $650 or more for an 8 ring set.
Also, any locking k*ys in the less expensive models? Thanks. Jim

As mentioned many times Klamm magic has nice affordable 12" rings.
http://www.klamm-magic.com/cgi-bin/web_s......match=on He also sells them separately! You can try Dazzle Magic as well. http://www.dazzlingmagic.com/products/Li......ome.html If you search the Café, in the ring discussions, the person who made those expensive multiplying bottles has also made a set of rings. If I remember correctly they are 12" or 13", and around $300.00 plus dollars. Proline has rings but they are larger then 12". |

I use VanDokkum rings and Owens myself when I use my 12 inch rings, but I also have a set from Klamm and they are very nice indeed! Also, try asking Levent his opinion - he is on this forum and in fact there is a thread under this section called "Levent on the Chinese Linking Rings" and that would be an easy place to find him.
There have been many makers of great quality 10 and 12-inch rings that are no longer around, and I have quite a few sets from such makers. You can search magic auction sites or dealers with older inventories for these and you may have luck there as well. I hope this information is useful to you. |

I remember that I saved for what seemed like years for my set of Owen's 12" rings and I'm still using them about 30 years later after thousands of shows. I wish I could recommend anything else but they are simply the best made and well worth the additional expense. If you are at the Castle this week, I'm in the parlor... I'll show them to you.

I saw them myself and Ray is absolutely right! the rings look brand new and the tone is perfect.
BTW_ Ray does a spectacular job of wringing every ounce of effect out of this classic and his performance is in many ways a wonderful lesson. See it! REgards- JNeal

I second (or third) the Owen rings, but they are expensive. One thing about Owen - if you ever need a replacement ring, a locking or closed you-know-what, or an over- or undersized ring, you can rest assured that you can always get one that will perfectly match your existing Owen rings.
Things are more like they are today than they've ever been before...

On the Bob White video on the rings, he (Bob) mentions a person from Texas who made him a custom set. If that guy in Texas can make a custom set for him, perhaps he can make a complete set with at 12" at a good price?

I have also heard about the guy in Texas. I guess the guy is a motorcycle customizer. I should get in touch with my friend and get the name.
I know Danny Guraganus (who bought the rights to Delben years ago) was making rings but that was 25 years ago. Don't know if he is still making stuff or not. Richard

I suggest checking with your local metal fabrication shop.
I had four 14" Stainless Steel made in 3/8" stock. One set of doubles and one Key and one single. The shop got a real kick out of making them, then seeing how they were used. $120.00 and I did the polishing. Turned out great, got exactly what I wanted and could see the quality immediately. And I supported a nice local business. Pete Click here to view attached image. |

Just spoke with Levent at Magic Live and he suggested Mikame rings. 9 rings at 11"

The Mikame rings are absolutely beautiful and are a dream to use, but I do not own them myself. Yet.

When I do the Robert-Houdin 12-Ring routine, the Bob Klamm 8" seems to be the right size as a bigger ring will make it hard to control that many rings in a parlor setting. When I do the Claudius Odin 8-Ring the vintage 9 1/2" set seems perfect (If I had 12 of these old heavy rings, I would have used them for the Chung Ling Soo 12-Ring)! For my personal 11-Ring routine I prefer the 12" Owens as it has a nice size, weight and sound (the 15" Owens seems to be too big in my hands for a high number of rings). I purchased the 9-Ring Mikame 11" set, last year for about $250. For what you get that price is a bargain! They are beautiful and have a very bright finish. They sound good and they are my favorite when I do the Vernon 6-Ring (AKA "Symphony of the Rings"). Sometimes a 10" ring looks in bit small as seen from stage and the 12" looks a bit big, in that case the 11" Mikame fills a perfect sweet spot. Plus, because it is a 9-Ring set (which means it comes with 3 singles), it is a natural for a "keyless opener". and the size of the venue which involves visibility of course. . k that certainsome rings are better for some

Prior to the company changing hands, I bought a set of 12 " rings from Rings N Things II.......they are VERY GOOD rings, especially for the price I paid for them, which was 100 bucks....
No, they aren't Owens quality, but they have the advantage of being....HEAVY! Why is this an advantage? When you hand a spectator a ring or rings and it's HEAVY....they KNOW they are holding onto something REAL and SUBSTANTIAL....... If you can find a set of these rings on Ebay or elsewhere....I highly reccomend them for this reason! |
