Hello everyone,
I'm now constructing my "ring in gumball machine" routine, but I'm curious about everyone's method to vanishing the ring. I use devil's handkerchief currently but am willing to hear more. What do you use? What is the most natural way to vanish in your opinion? Anyone uses Ken Scott's Ring box? Is it good? Thank you very much. YuYen

I do not have or use the gumball machine myself, but I have use the Fabric Manipulation Ring Hank for many different things. You should try looking into thimble sleights to see if there is one suitable to your routine. I have also used simple sleights to vanish a ring, using sl***ing or a t**it to complete the vanish, depending on what the effect or routine dictates.
The thread link cited by volto has some great suggestions in it too! I hope this information is useful to you. |

I have used various methods, but I think a rattle box or ring hank is the way to go - that way the spectator feels or hears the ring up till the last minute.

I also have the "Any Ring" or that's what I think it's called, where you can vanish any size ring, thick or thin, it is very inexpensive and works great, you will vanish borrowed rings of any size within minutes of getting this, I have not used it since I learned the false trans, and the Regal Ring Chain DVD as well as the Pro Flite by Swalding, both teach this simple , yet effective transfer as a side to the effect on the DVD, both great effects too.

Thank you everyone!
I DO love this place, you all are always so very helpful, I appreciate your suggestions! I'll go check the ring grinder. @dave, I think a false transfer is good but the spectator cannot hold "the ring" until the end of the trick. So I prefer rattle box or hank. thank you for your advice. Thanks again! YuYen

YuYen, you will love the "Any Ring" as it is so very simple, and you can borrow any ring, have the spec hold it to the end, whisk away the hank, without fear of the ring falling or making noise etc. and unlike a rattle box or ring cruncher or a Lippincott box, it fits right in your pocket, on another note, you can learn the Gypsy switch, an old method that uses an ungimicked hank or even a table napkin, very easy to do, impromptu as well, and it can be taken right off the table, Google it and you will find many tutorials.
here is a video of the any ring hank in use, he does fumble inserting it, I assure you, it is faster and easier than it looks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnEpdsLbyj8 Gypsy switch http://library.thinkquest.org/26485/gypsy.htm |

Thread ring onto rope, lay ring in hand showing threaded, close hand & turn fist over, wrap rope around closed fist, open hand & ring is gone.

That is the "Clifton Ring Move". Find it, and other great stuff in "The Magic of Emile Clifton" book, from http://www.stevensmagic.com

I believe it's also included (with proper credit) in Earl Nelson's VARIATIONS.

With a Ring Reel.
The one you want has a crab type clasp. The ring attaches very easy and detaches the same. It is not a locking clasp that is used for a ringflight. This is used solely to make a clean vanish of a ring so that it can be loaded or appear somewhere. The only one I know of who makes those is James Riser: http://www.jamesriser.com/Magic/JamesRiserMagic.html Although be warned that Mr. Riser decides if you are worthy owning his reel. You have to proove to him that you are a performer and not just a hobbiest. So approach him humbly and he might make you one. $80 is a very good price for such a high quality reel that probably lasts a lifetime. Master craftsman Martin from the UK made one that would even release the ring automatically once the clasp was fully retracted. This way the ring could be loaded practically by itself into a gumball for example.
Magic, in essence, is the ability of conjuring spirits who help the magician accomplish astonishing feats.

I recall a nice ring vanish by Aldo Colombini on one of his DVDs. I'll have to have a look.
