I see that I can subscribe to a thread that I start, so that I may be notified by email when replies are posted. I'd like to be able to subscribe to any thread, whether or not I've started it. If I post in a thread (one I haven't started) I'd like to be informed of replies, and sometimes there may be a thread I have nothing to contribute to, but I'd still like to know if more is posted on that subject.
Could you please enable the ability to subscribe (and unsubscribe) to any thread, not just a thread you start? Thanks for reading! |

There currently is not a Subscribe feature for any thread.
What I do is click my user name in the upper right (You are logged in as ____ "). This brings up my profile. The top line has a link: "Show this user's posts in the last 30 days." And I get a list of everywhere I've posted in the last 30 days. No, it doesn't show if there are any new responses - you have to manually go check. Part of the issue is that the Café was designed 10+ years ago. Bulletin boards and forums have come a long ways since then. But to migrate all the information from the Café into a new software set-up takes time and money, especially to make sure we don't lose anything in the transition. I'm sure Steve, Gene and Mary, and Dave and the rest of the staff would like nothing better than to simply slide into a set-up as easily as putting on a new jacket. It would provide a beeter experience in the sense that these common complaints would disappear. I'm also sure that if it was all that simple and easy to do, they would have done it long time back! Thanks for the reply Ed.
I can understand the headache of migrating to new forum software, especially for a forum run by volunteers. A suggestion to TPTB, thought it might take up some server space, would be to archive one forum, make it read only, and make a 2nd new forum. I realize that's not likely to happen any time soon (if ever!) but it's another option. Thanks again for the reply. |

You can tell if new posts have been made by looking at the coffee mugs next to each forum. If they are red, there are new posts. Just look at the forums you are interested in and skip the rest.

Thanks Dave. I knew about the coffee cups (and checking my own post count too!) I'm not online much, so an email notification for specific topics of interest would be more helpful than looking at the forum daily to see if something new has been added. I'm more likely to visit the board if I see there's been action on a topic of interest, than to browse. But again, thank you for the suggestion!

You could use Google Alerts for important topics. A few key words, your user name (all with the + in front) and site:themagiccafe.com should do it for you.

Thinking about that - it might not work so good to get you back to your threads unless somebody quotes you??
I dunno - if you get it worked out, let us know!! Ed |
