Not sure if this is out yet but I believe they can be purchased through Dean Dill. Hope I'm not jumping the gun on posting here.

I saw this performed today and all I can say is "Harry Potter" magic! I love this!

Soooo innocent looking and sooo cool!

I purchased this direct from Dean, last Saturday at the Magic Castle Swap-Meet.

VERY CLEVER, this Dean!

But we ALL knew that already! Haha!

I just checked his site and it's not on there yet. Wonder when (or if) he's going to release it to the rest of us?

Effect: A necklace of colored beads, known as "Pop Beads", are shown around the performers neck, or introduced from your pocket as your Magic Beads.

A person names a small number between 1-20.

Say they chose the number 12. One end of the beads is taken by the spectator, the other end is held by the performer or someone else.

The person is asked to concentrate on their number.

You tell them when they get the urge, they are to pull or tug on the beads they are holding.

They pull, and believe it or not they are left holding the EXACT number they chose!

Can be repeated immediately.

This trick or one like it has been out for years, I don't know where it's origin came from, but I believe I saw Adrian Sullivan perform it at the IBM in the uk a couple of years ago. The set he sells is multi coloured and is called the gypsy necklace. I am sure this is the same effect.
Here is a link to the site.

It is also on ebay.

I was just about to say that rowland.

Yes, that trick is not new.
It's been setting up at our local magic shop for many many years, because no one wants to buy it.

Does Dean have a different method? The effect of Nana's Necklace is as old as the hills, but Dean's method for the effect is new and makes it practical to perform in walk-around situations.

You could make it more of a mental effect if you have the spectator "think" of their number.

The traditional name for the trick is The Gypsy Necklace. Was out when 'Pop Beads' came on the market.

The original Pop Beads were very well made in America way back in the 1960's. The beads when separated had a loud 'POP' sound, thus the name of the product. Now the beads are cheap imports and break very easily with normal use. The trick is mainly a prediction effect, and has not been very popular as it again requires the user to think on their feet while under fire. This like the Invisible Deck, puts many off the trick.

New method? Great, too bad he didn't improve the effect which is still very unimpressive.

Dean kills with his routines... one version.... NAME ANY CARD... pull on beads... count number of beads in hand, count to that number in deck to find card. Grab handfull of pennies... count 'em.. pull beads apart and number of beads in your hand matches number of coins. There's more.

I don't get it??? You pull the beads and you are left with that many. Is this a necklace that is essentially breaking and they are left with that many beads? Someone explain that part a bit more. Thank you, LOL

In his groundbreaking book "Pure effect" Derren Brown said we need to be "ruthless" in cutting out the "meh" effects in our repetoire.
To me, this is beyond "meh"

Saying "Dean kills with his routines" is meaningless. If I, personally, am not enthralled by a routine, I will not perform it. I certainly won't shell out $40 for it.

I am actually pretty sick of all the circle jerking that goes on here. The cronyism is just too thick. Somewhere along the line magicians got the idea that they could fart and sell it in a jar. Well, I ain't buying farts Pete.

I don't mean to be ignorant, but what is "meh".

You should see Dean do this for the laymen that come into his barber shop... they ask him to do it again and again. Almost every magician he does it for buys it. I have had the same reaction.

Thanks for the flame...it burned off the gas your message emitted.

I received this today and find it very clever and deceptive.
Perhaps it is an old principle but it is not one I personally knew and I found it fun.
Much of this prediction effect happens in the spectators hands and seems very unlikely.

Xiqual, sorry that I must intervene but I feel as though your posts are very arrogant and not necessary for these forums. Just saying it seems a tab bit immature.

The use of these kinds of words, and shortcuts in writing, like C U, and FWIW, just show a trend to laziness, and to many of us "regular folks" do not always know their meaning.

Posted: Dec 2, 2011 12:36pm
This is a bit off subject, but. In Xiqual's posted URL there's a mention of the Simpsons. I do not watch that show. Why? Because the work is all done overseas, in Korea. This kills a lot of jobs here in the U.S.A. for animators, one such guy, now out of work is a very talented animator friend.

Actually, it says a lot. I've seen Dean do this for spectators - they stand in LINE to see it done. He walks into businesses and does this and it fries people. It's been in his working repertoire for 30 years.

It may not be for you, but that doesn't mean it's a bad trick. Dean is no slouch; The Tonight Show doesn't book "meh" performers.

So anyway back to the trick. What is actually happening here? I mean is this a necklace (with no ends)? So the spectator grabs the neckalce and it breaks leaving them with the predicted amount of beads?

A pop bead necklace, it can be broken anywhere...and yes it breaks leaving spectator with their predicted amount of beads. Dean includes several routine phases and variations.
I am really enjoying it.
