I think the other point I forgot to mention is that the greatest part about this group is the variety and support it offers the restaurants and patrons alike. So on Wednesday night as we're wrapping up with a table we can say, "And if you come in next week you'll be able to meet "John". He's an amazing magician that does some killer coin magic. Ask him to do this trick where..." You get where I'm going? We rotate our performers EVERY week so that the guests have a different experience EVERY week...just like food! Certain people will have a certain magician in that city they favor. If they missed him on this night at this place they can see his full performance schedule on our website and at the same time see where he's performing and link the the restaurant's main website for more info. Do you realize how much our guests LOVE this!?

Help me out here(respectfully). You stated above, your group works with about approx. 40 corporate chains "NATIONWIDE"...
in previous posts it was 30+ but it's in the ballpark. Not a big number to support your statement in your last paragraph.

With 30+ / 40 clients NATIONWIDE (there are that many in a 5 mile radius from my home) how busy are the magicians? That's stretching them kinda thin don't you think? I see your statement being valid ,down the road, but certainly not valid now.
Or am I missing something? I'm confused is all regarding your post.
With respect.

I understand how you can get confused. Let me explain a bit more.
This specific company that we're working with has a total of 150 nationwide. The CEO of our company had been invited to speak at their national conference. Some of the owners had showed interest and decided to partner with our company. When you say that we "spread our performers thin" we usually have more than one performer in the cities that this specific restaurant is in. However, this doesn't mean that that particular magician only works that one restaurant. He/she might work several in that city but they DO perform our the restaurant we are partnered with. Does this make sense? And you're right...as discussed earlier, we don't want to saturate that specific city with magic on every corner. Ideally we would like to have around 4-5 magicians in each city with 5-10 restaurants in that city.
It's really up to our magicians in these cities to go out and find a venue they feel is appropriate for their style. We encourage nicer establishments seeing that we're trying to change the perception of magic and that it CAN be performed in more finer dining. The magicians have a higher chance to book better gigs for higher amounts. Regardless, each magicians mentions the website and that every week the guests can see a different magician or that 3-4 nights a week they can see magic in the other restaurants they perform at...the customer just has to go the the website to see the performance schedule.

Shockingly no.
Can we just go with if your customers are happy then cool? And we wish you good fortune? It is much easier.

Sounds good to me. My whole point I was trying to make is that yes, we do focus on helping increase the bottom line for the restaurants. But in the end you're right...they're happy, the customers are happy and we're happy ; )

RESSURECTION !! and the crickets have left the building.
The initial topic of this post was "What would you ask a General Manager?"
Well I did something novel yesterday and talked to a "Customer", a "Patron", the one who spends his money at a particular restaurant. We got into a conversation about why he chooses one restaurant over another.
Here is a synopsis of that conversation:
This person, dines in restaurants at least twice weekly and he was passionate about where and why he chooses a particular restaurant.
#1-- Food and the consistency of the quality of food. He doesn't like it when the food is good one day and not so great the next.
#2-- Atmosphere/ He said it doesn't have to be fancy but he likes a pleasant-non Caféteria style place to enjoy the meal.
#3-- Service--a bigy
#4-- Reasonable prices/ Doesn't mind paying a little more as long as it's good and the portions are adequate.
#5-- He likes to be recognized, cared about as a customer. He wants the waitstaff to be attentive so he doesn't have to wonder where the server is when a refill or something else is needed.
He told me he used to frequent one particular restaurant for many years(a restaurant regular), and stopped going because he didn't feel appreciated. No one stopped by his table to just chat for a minute or two of to just ask how he was and or that it was nice to see him again. He told me he didn't even care if it was a line of BS, just make me feel appreciated that I'm spending my time and money here.
He said to me; "Dave, I go out to eat so my wife doesn't have to battle with the kitchen, dishes and cleaning up at home, so, I don't want to battle with a restaurant about the food or service."
Big question ??? I asked him about table-side magic. (I've performed for him before) His response: He very much enjoyed it and it satisfied the attention that he felt important. He didn't want to see magic "every" time he came in but liked the visit even if it was just to say hello and chat for a few seconds. Sometimes they just weren't in the mood while other times he'd say "What ya got for us today?"
Here is an article from a local paper in my area entitled:

I'm well aware that there were people who weren't enjoying this discussion, but I think it is a good one to have. Just because some people weren't getting along doesn't mean that there isn't valuable information in this thread such as:

EXACTLY; we are PR reps first. We as magicians fulfill that need for a restaurant. I see regulars all the time who aren't even in the mood to see magic, but we still talk for a few minutes because they enjoy feeling recognized and appreciated by the restaurant. It doesn't matter if they buy enough food to increase profits because they are lifetime customers and brand loyalty is the true goal.
Magic is secondary, relationships come first. They want to be friends with the magician, not the magic tricks.

I have been working restaurants for about 20 years and when I approach a GM with the thoughts of wanting to work in the restaurant I always start off with what is their slowest night? Then I go into how I can help build up that night. I always ask for at least a 3 month commitment to the idea and discuss with him what he is going to do to promote the "magical" night. I then go on about the advantages of helping out with problems in the kitchen, etc.

IN magic like an many fields there will always be people that do, others just talk ,some just see but why would we kick down a magician/mentalism friend ? because we don't like his ideas, becuase hes young ,becuase some say hes pretending to be a guru to all of us? That is so sad to know and hear comming from entertainers and people that base their carrear in decieving . I guess not everybody as a secret applicable formula that works 100% for everyone ,in every place and for all type of people ....if there was one everybody would have a Vegas Show like Criss angel,Lance Burton ,P & T, jEFF McBride ETC....insted of traveling from city to city to make a living out of this art...or performing localy at every restaurant to bring food to your family, I guess nobody has it all perfect . I guess the best thing to do is listen or read what every body says to be better at your business and take whatever is best for you no harm done ....I would give you a quick example of this : in one of Richard Osterlinds dvds 13 steps to mentalism he say that hes going to show us how to do the tricks and some of them he modify a bit since he dosent agree that some steps on corindas book are the best to perform certian tricks, he dosent butcher corinda he just modifies what he dosent like or feel good about the process to achieve certain effect and that's it ,Osterlind showed class there ... I liked Benji Bruce book and I took what I believe it would work for me ,whatever I dint like I dint like and that's it but that dosent mean it wont work for another guy ....so let us just take the best of all of us and make a great life for all of us .... I love Cafés reviews on magic and dvds and books ...But a book of this nature should always be treated difrently than a dvd where the show you how to do a trick, in that case you have to follow the method 100% to make it work and once you learn it you may modify it ,but a book of the business of magic or an interview with a GM dosent harm you dosent make you a better magician but it gives you pointers that you may just want to consider (IF YOU WANT) that are working for somebodyelse if not just keep enjoying your day.
