Hi, all, sorry I have been unwell with depression/OCD and body tremors :-( and as such haven't posted for a while, but on a good note -
I volunteer at a heritage centre and am part of the Events Committee (a hair-brained idea for rasing money by yours truely). |The centre used to be a Vagrancy Ward as part of the local Workhouse. Last night we put on a Dickensian Supper Evening with snippets of Dicken's, some poetry and of course magic.
During the main course I was 'table hopping' bit of a contradiction but did it! The routines I perfromed were the classic Svengali deck routine (I had 3 decks of Svengali on me), D'lites with the sponge balls, Professor's nightmare and melt. Ones that I had ready if I had time were Scotch and Soda, Money Paddle and the brain wave deck (x2 - one in blue box, and 1 in red box. All of those went down really well, so where ready for my first ever stage show!
This comprised of - (In order) 6 card repeat, which instead of the usual 'I saw this trick by.....' I made it a simple maths test! I then proceded with the neilson wine bottle, did the usual jokes (and the usual graons)with it, then prompty said, 'I see you're not impressed' and scrunched the bag (good applause with that. Mental photography was next, I opened the deck, and stated I was going to show a card trick but couldn't, showed all the cards were blank, then said 'Now if I think hard enought...but since I am male I cannot multitask...) SO got a good laugh/applause for that.
I then proceded with my favourite which was the cut n restored rope, got two volunteers in the audience to hold the both ends of the rope after I tied the two ends together, then asked them to blow on the knot, then moved the knot to each volunteer - then removed the knot and 'restored the rope! After that was the sticks 'n' strings, which I used the poem, (if some-one can tell me where this comes from I would be grateful, as I know it isn't mine!
Here I have two sticks, two stings,
And Both of them do silly things,
Up and down look at them go,
While this one goes high,
This goes Low.
I know what you are thinking,
The sting goes from here, to this end,
Bit like me
Round the bend
But if I move the sticks like so,
This still goes high, when this goes low.
Now if this trick should go wrong
And both the stings end up long
I pull a hair from my right,
Twist like so,
And they are outs sight!
My finale was a card prediction, which went really well, so I now feel that I am good enough to carry on further (YAY). The amount of praise etc was great too. I am just glad that the effects I performed the audience were able to enjoy them 'one more time'.
The reason why I am posting all of this is that I am wondering whether or not I got the amount, the order and the type of effect right, and whether or not I should add/take away some stuff.
hey... ... what is this signature saying about me?!

TJ,
Sounds like it all worked!
I really like the sticks poem... may adapt it myself
How did you do the six card repeat as a math test? I'd like to do that with kids (I substitute teach a lot).
Keep up the good work, and best of luck!

It was with, I have six cards, now quick maths test, six (counting the cards) minus 3 is... I did this three times in a row, as I think the 'I wsaw this trick with...' is a bit repetative, the end result is when the audience think they guess that you still have 6 cards you end with three!
Call me evil, but I like playing with peoples minds!

I don't know how you managed to get that much stuff in your pockets for table hopping because I am lucky to get more than two decks of cards on me (and remember which is which). The sponges usually take up a lot of room alone!

The best way to figure out your order is trial and error.
There are no rules to this

Does anyone know any wine bottle productions/vanishes that do not use an actual wine bottle e.g a coke bottle instead as I would like to incorporate one into my kids show

MJM has a vanishing coke bottle. Silly Billy does a vanishing coke bottle routine where he turns it into a baby bottle. It is pretty funny.

Cute trick, now that I've had my gastric bypass perhaps this would be a good part of my story... from soda to baby food *grin*

I think you can substitute any bottle for this effect;
