I saw this during my recent trip to Harbor Freight Tools. It's polypropelene, with a core. The glow is only guaranteed for 6 months, but might be good for guys who perform cut and restored in dance clubs. It comes in 1/4" and 3/8" thicknesses.

Rather than "glow in the dark" rope that barely glows, flourescent colored ropes that glow brightly under ultraviolet light (black light) can be seen at greater distances than regular rope and the flourescence can be used to conceal many rope gimmicks as well. Flourescent thread is popular for turning the Gypsy Thread trick into a stage trick as well. Especially pretty are those tricks which use different color ropes. If you need to use special cotton magician's rope, flourescent dyes are available so you can color your own magic ropes to suit your needs.

The rope was not easy for a ma***t to be in place, so I do it with my non-gimmicked version (on my Linking ropes DVD). You have to leave the ropes in the sun all day. I don't remember if it was the proplene stuff.

This is a highly personal opinion, but I avoid using anything but white rope unless the effect calls for contrasting ropes.

One of the beautiful things about rope magic is that rope is common and people accept it for what it is...unless it looks like something from a magic shop, such as glow-in-the-dark rope.

Just this old magician's opinion.

Best,

Andre

Yes, but the young modern audiences are dazzled by flashing lights, canes with bulbs, d'ite's and variations. Night club routines and explosive movement. Then, of course, is the supernatural aspect of magic where ghostly ropes prevail.
