I purchased a simplified walking knot from someone on the Café about six or eight months ago. I've started practicing with it, and after watching some other performances on tying the knot/use of the gimmick, I'm getting the hang of it.

My problem is with the last "knot"... Once I've connected the gimmick, I can't really get anything to look like a knot. I've watched Jay Scott Berry's video at least 4756 times to try to emulate what he is doing to no avail...

Can anyone give me any advice with this? Thanks!

I do a cut, make a knot, slide that knot to the other end of the rope. I then make the knot disappear. After that I take the restored rope and do the krazy knot, after I dump it in my top hat I do the krazy knot finish, and take a bow. I'm not sure I understand what you are saying please give me more details. If you feel more comfortable PMing me feel free.

Is this the video you are speaking about?

I believe your problem comes from not getting the Super version. You saved some money, but got less points of restoration, thus your knot has longer ends.

Although the ad on Pavel site says that the Simplified version can do the same effect of the "knot melt visibly", so it must be explained in the directions. You may just have to gather more rope during speaking to the audience.

I believe Jay is just making a simulated knot, looping the rope and holding it with his fingers of the right hand. The video is not high Resolution so it is hard to see exactly, as your eyes and brain fill in what is missing with his moves. This should be discribed in the directions as well.

Just my observation of knowing the trick and watching the video.

My mistake I have the junior walking knot, and I gave you bad advise.

The one on youtune could be the super, simplified, or smart version, they all can perform the trick the way Jay Scott Berry does it. That being said all four versions use the same gimmick. The only difference between them is the number of places you can make your cut.

You are going to have to PM me in order for me to understand your question. He does the same move three times, if you can do it once why can't you do it three times?

Very nice handling, the way he tied the knot and all. Smooth and convincing. Not sure I'd do more than one phase, though, or restore the rope at the end.

I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.

I find it to be a fairly standard performance. I could do without the knot close-up as it shows a clearly uncut knot piece with a hollow end.

It may be standard, but why do essentially the same effect twice in a row? And don't you think that restoring the rope at the end points to the method for reasonably intelligent people? Why not just do the basic effect once, then go on to another effect (a rope trick, if you want to stay with the rope theme).

After you buy the trick it is up to you how many times you restore the rope. The way Pavel did it is only a suggestion.

Magicelam.... I'm not sure I (or the others answering your question here) are 100% clear as to what you mean when you refer to a problem with the 'last knot'. (Or maybe the others are totally clear and it's just me that's a bit fuzzy on the point)

I think you are referring to the moment just before the last restoration which leaves the rope in one piece with no knot. Is this the case?

If so, the answer to your problem is... from just before the final restoration... to cross the ends of the ropes as if making a standard knot and then simply turn the ends back so you can let/make the gimmick do its thing. You them simply hold this slightly twisted arrangement in your fingertips and let go when you want to show the final restore.

As a side point... I've always been unsure about the final restore in this effect. I understand that magicians want to do it if only because the props allow it to be done. But I can't help think that the magic is more stunning if the plot of the effect is kept... that is... one of moving the cut ends (apparently bound within the knot) to another position in the rope.

I can't help but feel that adding the final restoration muddies the waters of what the effect is. This then has the finale treading on the toes of the previous elements of the effect. That might not matter if the final restoration moment was a real kick ass, Ta Dah, moment but it isn't. It's a nice piece of magic for sure... but it's not going to bring the house down. It rounds off the routine and brings things back full circle to one piece of rope and if that is part of the scripted presentation then I can see it working. But otherwise I feel that although it rounds off the effect it also makes what's gone before slightly less impressive.

Then again....maybe not?

Any comments?

Jon
It is not easy to make the move look natural, so take some time to practice it.

A tip that I found out the hard way is if you buy the Junior walking knot, and the finally you don't need to buy the Krazy Knot because you have enough rope already to do all three phases.
