I've been watching a number of ungimmicked one cup routines, lately. My latest find is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_ovProtsz8&feature=related . I've also watch a number of videos by Jonathan Kamm, from Chicago, and was really impressed. What are some of your favorite ungimmicked one cup routines? Post a performance video link if there is one.

Karol Fox has a neat method in one of his books.

I know it's spelled wrong.

I am a big Fan of Scotty York's version - My Lady's Teddy Bear (in For Your Eyes Only). It is pretty simple, but entertaining.

2nd vote for Scotty York. The one addition I made is a wand as I love the wand vanishes.

Yes. Both Daryl's and Scotty's routines rock.

I used to do one for a while. I even went hardcore and didn't use a wand. I wouldn't recommend that, though. If I could have figured out a way to incorporate a wand seamlessly without altering the plot, I would have. Otherwise, the trick was screaming for a chop cup.

I'll bring your attention to "Fold Cup" described in earlier posts/reviews here.

You fold a "tent/hat" out of a magazine sheet while a spectator makes little paper balls. The you perform any variety of
"Chop like" effects and many unique ones without any gaff (the cup design does it for you)

Funsway,

With the limited search function here on the Café being an impediment to research, could you provide links to the discussion of your routine. Is it available on your website, as well?

Here is one -- http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewtopic.php?topic=312010&forum=115

back then, I offered it free to some users in return for critical evaluations -- which brought about a the creation of additional support material including a PP demo of construction. For you Kent -- I'll send one free.

write me at gusarimagic@comcast.net to discuss any particular features.

I love the routines from Karrell Fox, Daryl, Rene Lavand and Mark Jenest (Jiggernaut). The Carney Fruit Cup is awesome.

How about the David Williamson routine? That is one of my favorites. As most of them are ungimmicked, you can also do a standard Benson Bowl style routine using cups if you rework the routining/handling a tad.

I just looked up Scotty York's routine and I already saw a routine by Jonathan Kamm, that was based on it. I did some research and found that it was in an early Magic Menu issue. I'm studying it, now.

Just want to point out, that Axel Hecklau has a fantastic routine with an ordinary leather dice cup (unprepared) and a jumbo die. Saw it live at a lecture and was very entertained and mystyfied.
It is called "Just a Cup". It also has the advantage of using ordinary well known objects and not a special magic prop like an alu or wodden chop cup.

The opening I did for Alchemy is essentially an ungimmicked one cup routine, although it does smoke (which could be considered a gimmick?!):

Herr Hecklau--Fantastisch! I will be saving my pennies. I gather from some of the comment on another thread on this routine that a different cup could be used if one wished; is this correct? I ask as I am thinking how a three cup routine might meld into this one, and I would need three matching cups for what I have in mind. Or are duplicate cups available if the first answer is "no".

I loved the Bartender Patrick routine. Fast and had them off guard all the time with a lot of fun and laughs.

Does anybody know where one might find a large die to use as a final load?
