I'm sure the answer to this question has been posted somewhere on this site, but I couldn't find it. I recently purchased an effect that relies on rope magnets. I find the audible 'click' when the two ends meet problemmatic. Is there a standard method for muffling this sound, like using some sort of paint or perhaps a thin layer of superglue on the end of the magnets?

I can't say myself, but the two ideas you mentioned sounds good, maybe add masking tape to it too. I'd just take a few normal mag***s and try on them to see what works first.

To cover the sound, you could try clear nail polish, glue on a a bit of fabric or tell a funny joke?

There is a technique when doing the effect. It depends on your method of connection. If you follow the instructions that come with some sets that use magnets, you will have noise, because you physicaly pull ends apart. Pm me and I will try to describe the technique that is on my new Video on the Linking ropes.

I grip one end in my pinky at the base of my hand and the other end with my first finger and thumb and gently ease them together rather than snap. The palm of your hand masks any sound combined with gently moving them closer with the fingers. I use this in my routine for Slashed.
It is a "knack thing" and does of course take practice, but it definitely makes the connections quiet.

That's the method that comes with instructions and most guys can't handle. Its rough on them to do the "ease together" thing and keep a fast paced effect without telegraphing the move.

Hey Scott, the more I watch your clip, the more I am a fan. Attitude is cool, moves are smooth, and it is just a pleasure to watch. The use of the knife blade is a lot better than a scissor for this effect. Bravo.
