According to the Las Vegas Review Journal today, Chris Angel flipped out during a disagreement over a magic trick and roughed up Joe Monti.

I don't think Chris Angel would be able to rough up a paper bag.

Apparently this is true. From The Las Vegas review Journal:

http://www.lvrj.com/news/-political-madonna-angered-wishna-138998379.html

CRISS ANGEL ALTERCATION

An associate of Luxor headliner Criss Angel filed a police report Wednesday, alleging he was roughed up in the illusionist's office warehouse.

Joe Monti, whose real name is Joe Safuto, told Vegas Confidential that Angel "flipped out" Wednesday during a disagreement over a magic trick.

Monti, who gave his age as 52 and said he is about 5-foot-5, said he has been a consultant for Angel for years and endured his verbal abuse before. "But I draw the line at violence," Monti said in a telephone interview.

Monti said he was bruised when Angel "bumrushed me out the door" about 4 p.m.

Angel could not be reached for comment by deadline.

I confess, this is the first time I have ever heard the word, "Bumrushed".

My ex-cat is named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

Bum rushed sounds like a prison exercise.

Why call it common sense when it's so rare ?

You people never heard of "bumrush"?

I can think of a Simpsons episode where it's used.
The one with Scorpio.

Marge - "I keep feeling we are going to get the bums rush."
Scorpio - "We don't have bums here Marge. If we did, they wouldn't be rushed, they would be aloud to go at their own pace."

I loved that episode. Scorpio had some great lines in it.

I am surprised that Angel didn't use the nunchaku. He seems like the kind of guy who would use the 'chucks.

You may have a point there.

Poor Joe. No one deserves to be treated like that.
Especially over magic.

An official statement has been made at http://www.vegasdeluxe.com/blogs/luxe-life/2012/feb/10/criss-angel-denies-allegations-fight-fired-employe/

We can assure you that the claims against Criss are simply not true.

Coming from someone who gets paid from Criss Angel, I wouldn't expect any other statement. Isn't Criss Angel already disrespected within the magic community though? I've never hear a good word about him from other magicians.

I could really care less who is to blame, they both are rather pathetic when you think about it. I remember when Banachek got fired by Criss Angel because Banachek wouldn't be his little puppet.

There are two different stories, and the truth probably isin the middle some where. What I don't believe us Angel's statement. He was going to fire Joe for being inept. Angle has himself introduced him as being a great close-up magician, and he had the guy on the payroll for 5 years.

I know Joe Monte. Trust me when I tell you that he is not inept...far from it.

Joe didn't deserve what happened in that altercation, and in light of the fact that he's been a "good soldier" to the less-than-angelic one for many years (a largely unpopular stance to take), he doesn't deserve the character assasination that the CA camp has begun to unleash.

I remember reading interviews with Banachek in 'Magic' after his departure where he was nothing but respectful when talking about CA.
I guess we only like a story when it's sensational.

That says more about the character of Banachek than anything else.

I was talking about this story, http://www.penguinmagic.com/discuss/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=144692. Criss Angel firing Banachek. I agree that Banachek was very respectful afterwards, which does show a lot about his character.

A lot of people have been asking about what happened between Joe Monti and Criss Angel. The truth of the matter is that the situation has been blown out of proportion and what's being said simply is not true. Criss was provoked on phone calls and in person several times. Criss has loaned Joe money, and tried to help him in a lot of different ways but Joe always thought he was right and was always hesitant to listen to reason.

Not only has Criss helped Joe, he's also helped me (by sending me to his doctors and being by my side in the hospital when I was diagnosed with a tumor on my spine) and countless others on our team when he didn't have to. This is the side of Criss that most will never see because it's done from the kindness of his heart.

Over the last couple of months I've been Joe's supervisor and he's made my job very difficult by not showing up for work and feeling a certain form of entitlement here in the office by doing whatever he wanted. It was very obvious to Joe, and everyone in the office, that he was going to be terminated and it's apparent that he set this up and had every intention to get whatever he needed to make Criss look bad.

The simple matter is that Joe refused to leave our offices, and even after the 'argument' took place he wanted to speak with Criss privately to resolve things before leaving. I don't know about you but if I had been assaulted I would run out of the building looking for safety and calling the police. Unfortunately Joe stuck around to call the press and look for more trouble before claiming he had been attacked.

This is a sad sad day...
